Did Tex get a new camera?

Sad I missed the fun. I had a buddy in from out of town so we were down the shore on the Souph Side over the weekend. Looks like you guys had a killer time!

Yeah buddy, this one is my favorite.

I think in another thread you said you were carrying a 7D. Still the case or have you gone to FF? What kind of glass are you hauling on a tour like that? 7D is pretty much all I carry these days on a tour, but I usually only bring one piece of glass to keep it simple. If I make it out to your stretch of the woods we should get out … I’d love to pick your brain on shooting outdoors!

And don’t be afraid to post on TGR. It’s not about how rad your lines are, or are not. It’s about how much passion and dedication you are bringing to what you do. And clearly, your images show that’s a lot.

Besides, even “Big Air Dave” gets love on that website 😉

    Awesome beta in this thread!!!

I’m going to be in the Tromso/Lyngen area for touring, sightseeing, and bank-breaking drinking from May 14 through May 18. Too bad I won’t be on the same timeline KCasey!

Kind of a cross-post from my thread on TGR, but if anyone else has more info on the following, I’d love to hear it:

    • Partners – anyone wanna tour? I’ll be on a splitboard and will have glacier gear (and very little ice skills)
    • Lodging – If Magic Mountain Lodge is good enough for Frandsson, it’s probably good enough for me, but I’m sure there are other options … I don’t want to camp since I’ll be on a boat for a week after being in Lyngen/Tromso
    • Conditions – No idea what is going on out there, and there is probably only 1 guy in Norway who uses SnowPilot …
    • Routes – It can’t hurt to ask – I’m not looking for second descent beta, just any recommendations for established routes and nice lines that won’t piss off the locals, or websites etc
    • Any other beta of relevance

I’ll probably spend a day in Tromso, then a few days around Lygen, then a day back in Tromso. I’ll have a rental car duing this time … and then flying to Svalbard on 19 May for sick touring (woohoo thanks Doug Stoup).

Flying straight from LYR to OSL to head over to the Bergen International Festival from 28 May to 1 June before flying back to Los Estados Unidos! Who wants to get their party on?

also, a shoutout for arild, because he is the nicest awesomest e-Norwegian ever!

What kind of cramps would you guys pair with the Spantiks for moderate mixed climbing and moderate ice climbing?

    Cyborgs?

I am looking for something that will work well with my AT boots and Spantiks for climbing on low angle water ice, and/or seracs/icefall etc. Currently have 10-point strap Contacts, fine for neve but obviously not suitable for the aforementioned activities …

And I think I’m going to bite the bullet and pick up some Spantiks this year, whenever I can get a bc.com deal or whatever.

Also, please send PM if interested … the thread notification replies are going into my spam filter so I don’t know when people reply unless I check the thread.

    I’m obviously a very opinionated guy …

and I’ll admit when those opinions turn out to be wrong 😯

We had a great weekend in Tahoe though, and sticking to NE slopes I only got one serious base hit – no big deal with the ptex soldering iron.

Anyways, TEX – next storm, it’s DEFINITELY ON and worth the gas money 😉

And badass gloves, and Kid’s size emergency headlamps (the Wiz is 1 ounce, not a bad thing to keep in your pack or car for day trips), and Fritschis for anyone who does that funky skiing thing here …

^^^ I love seeing those kinds of statements from folks “off the hill” Its precisely the reason why most locals love the “in between season” the best…. Btw the fresh snow on the changing aspens is so beautiful this time of the year! Ill be out this weekend checkin out “the hype”

Don’t get me wrong A, I’ll be out poking around the Tahoe basin too.

But dude, gas at $4.30 a gallon from San Diego, for Eastside that got less snow last storm than Tahoe, with blower snow forecasted to fall on top of rocks on the Eastside …

It’s a different kind of math for locals like you than for dudes who have to drive a long ass way to get the goods. That’s all, and that’s exactly why the tweener seasons are so good for locals.

FYI, only the shorty 125cm pole available, not the 140. Which is *just* about as long as I would need in deep powder, but another potential issue is if you want to use them for tent support etc.

So I’m getting pretty close to booking a trip to Svalbard this coming May. I’m 90% certain that this trip will happen for me, and will post up once I’ve put my deposit and confirmed dates on my Svalbard trip.

I think I’ll be out there the last week of May, with Doug Stoup’s group (IceAxe.tv). I’m working that out right now. I hadn’t realized that flights from the Peninsula to Svalbard were so costly, so if there is any chance that people would like to adventure from Longyearbyen before or after our yacht trip, I might be open to extending my stay in Longyearbyen before or after our trip (but honestly I feel significantly more comfortable being on a guided group with local terrain knowledge and firearms training, as I have none).

I do plan to tour outside of Tromso in mid-to-late May, before the Svalbard trip. Exact dates TBD, once I have the Svalbard trip booked.

Anyways, please PM if you’re interested in Lyngen Alps or Svalbard adventures in that general time frame (mid-May to first week of June).

EDIT: *does anyone here live in Oslo? I could use a small bit of advice/help on something if you could PM me!!!

the early stuff (storm 2 weeks ago, and then this week’s storm forecast) has been favoring more northern Sierra than eastside.

That’ll change at some point, but for the while Tex, it seems saving the gas money and rippin the wakeboard or whatever is the way to go.

    Yo Terry,

I can’t go out midweek – doing some MTBing in the Peninsula, near San Mateo tomorrow …

But I was going to say, Yosemite is pretty easy. Go to Camp 4, get up early, and walk around the camp looking around for people who look fit and are going out adventuring. I’m sure you’ll find someone who would love to have you set up your Pocketwizards for bouldering or hiking. There are a lot of boulderers and sport climbers there, and also a lot of lifestyle shooting in the early morning (making camp coffee etc) and in the early evening.

Don’t go to Tahoe … not much to do outside in the transition season. Too much snow for hiking and MTBing, not enough snow for shredding. All of the action right now is in the Sierra foothills.

Same thing, if you want to shoot MTBing in Santa Rosa, just show up to the parking area for Annadel State park and talk to good looking MTB models, and ask them if you can tag along etc.

I was also going to say, best of luck. Your stuff is really good, and I wish I had those kind of skills for outdoor shooting.

And just PM me if you want more beta.
