Yeah, splitting a rental wouldn’t be soo bad, but getting a ride and paying for gas would be much cooler. I’m not 100% yet, but I’ll let you know when I know.
Right now Mammoth Mountain is reporting 120 inches. We have more snow on the way. But hey its snow,so it could be anything from blower powder to Ice 😯 Hell we may even see some corn. But I can tell you that
you will meet some good people
you will see the sierra
you will drink and attend safety meetings
you will laugh
and if we get real lucky…we may see the traditional hanging of the DISCO BALL
Oh Yeah…bring the wife, there is plenty of stuff to do
Hey Schralph.. how’s your knee? We are planning on traveling safely in smaller groups and finding different destinations for groups at different skill/risk tolerance levels. So hopefully we’ll have some tours that will work for you. But I would definitely recommend coming in decent cardio shape because it’ll just make everything easier. Also, I’m thinking of putting together a small beginner’s tour for new splitters in the Tahoe area. If you and a few others are interested we can try and find a day with mellow conditions to go out there and get some experience.
I got reallly lucky with the knee man! – very light sprain of my MCL (which was originally seriously injured 8 years ago) and a fat contusion on my hammy tendon (that’s already healed). Basically as I fell, I twisted so much that the inside of my right knee (at the hammy tendon) hit my left binding and bruised it HARD. The initial pain and contusion I mistook for a hamstring tendon tear, but the doc cleared me to ride. A lot of icing helped and I’m good enough to ride, though I can still feel the MCL walking down stairs. I’m not doing enough rehab on the bike, but I can still ride the board … got 5 days on the snow since then!
I should be in decent fitness for a medium exertion tour by then. Sheesh, during my avy class I got more sore in my ankles than in my knee while skinning around uphill! Guess I’m looking into hardboots this summer …
I am definitely pro splitting up into groups, since big groups are tricky and dangerous in BC for a whole lot of reasons.
Anyway, all sounds fun, and I’m stoked about your beginner’s tour! It reminds me of the beginner rides I used to host on the cycling team to teach the new kids the basics of safety, communication, riding in a pack, showing people the routes, etc. Basically all the same stuff applies here 😀
Get you shit packed and come on down. We will have something for you. Tours will be from big lines to nice drainages. Come on out and meet some more goofballs
Dang …. I will no longer be able to make it, which bums me out a bit. I just confirmed that I have a tournament in Santa Cruz that weekend, so no Sierra’s for me this year.
Tex, even though I can’t make it, thanks for setting it all up and offering a ride. It will just have to be next year.
Checking the calendar myself… Been stuck resort riding the few times I’ve been out this year, but would love a little springtime fun on the eastside. That might be my last free weekend before my baseball season starts too…
KjKrow, what kinda of tourney in Santa Cruz? My wife will probably be playing a sand volleyball tourney on the 29th there at Main Beach… Makes for a good reason for me to be doing something else instead… 😉
How’s the headcount for this looking so far? Seems like it’ll be an intimate little gathering…
It’s for Ultimate Frisbee. This is my last year of college eligibility, so I’m playing with UW as a grad student. The tourny in Santa Cruz is Fools West and should be awesome, but I will miss the Sierras.
Hey its all good Kj we be here all spring if you want to coe down inApril May or June. And No Knees…probably between 10 and 20 peeps. Last years event at Tioga Pass brought out 18 people.
kj, cool… I don’t have the endurance for ultimate these days. Have to stick with less aerobic games like beach volleyball.. 😉
Tex, sounds good… The last time I met up with any of the split crew was a few years back at the Clair Chapen lodge gathering… Had a blast… Last few years I’ve been more of an outsider looking in, but I want to change that…
How would the family enjoy the beautiful Eastern Sierra? They could spend the day watching TV at Tom’s place while you ride. 😀 J/K Too bad you can’t make it.
