Ok Buckaroos…it the last day of August and time to start focusing on the upcoming season. I plan to put together another little get together in the Eastern Sierra this season and Im looking for input. My goal is to get some immigrants here from Wyoming,Colorado ,Utah ,Montana ,Washington ,Oregon,East Coast and Canada. Who knows maybe even Burton from Germany will come over. First…location. Should I stick with Tioga Pass Resort
The only possibility I would have of going is if it is the week of March 10th-15th cause that’ll be my spring break. Even then, there’s a good chance so take that into account when tallying my vote. 🙂 I like the lodge, cause then the stoke is about riding cool lines instead of being about a hardcore winter camping + touring experience.
I’m in for sure, wherever it ends up. TPR rules and I’d be totally up for returning. But I could camp in a parking lot or whatever accomodates people. Is that too flakey of an answer? What do you think of this:
The Ostrander Hut in Yosemite sleeps 25. I haven’t really looked into what terrain is around there, but I thought I toss a Sierra hut trip out there as a possibility.
Here is a link to Rock Creek Lodge. Still Deep in the High Sierra, but less pricey than TPR. However no cooked meals. The mosquito flat hut sleeps six, but with the stove and hot water it could be used as a kithen/party base and all of us could camp. It is 5 miles in but I think we could get the lodge to take our gear in via snowmobile

Hey John wanna carpool??? That is off course pending on how my knee feels then.
Did I mention I like physical therapy! Normally most people can’t wait to get discharged. After 17 visits in 3 months I’m still coming back for more. Something about very attractive females working my leg like a spare rib and then stimming me. Can’t wait till next week!
I haven’t been to either but I hear Pear Lake Hut has WAY better close terrain than Ostrander. http://www.sequoiahistory.org/pearlake/pearlake.htm Here’s the topo around Pear Lake Hut. The hut is titled Pear Lake Ranger Station. Notice the 11,000 foot peaks relatively close by. I’ll do my best to be there for sure.

Figure out some dates and the Thrillhead Crew will rally a car load of Schralpers from Colorado to come and spend the week after filming with some locals.
Rock Creek has sweet terrain but I’d pass on staying at the Mosquito Flat hut. Its $35 per person, per night to stay in a stinky, mice infested hut. I’d rather stay in my clean tent for free. Plus you can camp further up the valley closer to the goods. Lastly, the chick that manages the Rock Creek Lodge is a bitch.
The Pear Lake hut would be cool. The problem is that its very popular so you have to reserve through a lottery system 6 months to a year in advance. Kinda hard to predict conditions at that rate.
If you build it (organize) we will come though! 🙂
Another option could be a rental house in South Lake or something. This way the folks that had to travel far and wide can stay in a little more comfort than bc camping and we can do day trips to a myriad of places. Maybe enjoy a little nightlife and slideshow action too. 🙂
I like the South Lake rental idea. Or even North Lake which is closer to the Reno airport. It’s easy to find a house that sleeps 15+ for a couple hundred $$$ a night, which would turn out to be cheaper than most huts.

The rental idea sounds great and maybe the most flexible way to accomodate people. I don’t know that much about the E Sierra towns, but we could also consider a rental in someplace like Bridgeport or Bishop. We’d be further from the airport but with closer access to the E Sierra lines.
