I’m looking for a few different partners for some various multi-day bc splitting/skiing trips. I’m currently making plans for the March-July time frame. Mostly a few 3 day trips on long weekends, but also a one week long trip sometime between May and July.

Ideally the trips would all offer remoteness and light mountaineering- with an emphasis on descents of couloirs and summits. The short trips would all be within a few hundred miles of SLC (Tushars, Stansburys, Deep Creeks, Ruby’s, La Sals, Uintahs, Tetons, Sawtooths, Henry’s…) while the one week tour could be anywhere in the western US.

I’d eventually like this to develop into annual trips to Europe, SA, Asia…

Anyone else dream of distant summits, remote couloirs, stinky partners, bad coffee and poor jokes?

The coffee mustn’t be bad =)

Get some turkish coffee and take one heaped spoon per cup. No sugar no milk no nothing. Well…. sugar is kinda OK. Just pour the boiling water into the cup over the coffee, let it sit for 2 minutes and then stir. Don’t let the water cool down before pouring or the grains will float and get in your teeth.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but it beats filtered or instant coffee hands down.

If you’re feeling pretentious you can marginally improve on it with a finjan/ibrik, as is suggested in this tutorial.

Another trail fav of mine is loose leaf green tea. It’s also very simple, and the scrap leaves can be used to clean your hands/face or cookware, and even as bandaging due to the tea oil content in the leaves (squish them a bit first to release it).

I’d be tempted to answer “yes” to all other questions, but I won’t be in your area when I’m in the states in March… =P

    damn good dream.

if your western tour takes you through tahoe, you’ve got a place to crash, and good coffee.

Si! Put me on your list. I’ve already signed up for a lot of fun trips this year but I’m always up for one more. If you’re ever planning something and you’re looking for a partner, let me know. I wouldn’t say that I dream of stinkiness, but I am a master of the lame joke.

Long weekends will generally work for me, but transportation is problematic as I have no wheels. If I hitch to Brigham from Logan, I can get the UTA down to Salt Lake though. I really enjoy winter camping (no, seriously), so if you can let me know a week or two in advance, I ought to be able to line things up with school, etc. I have some insider knowledge on the tushars and the deep creeks, have heard the rubys are phenomenal, and have always dreamed of the LaSals, snow and redrock desert…
Now we just need a bit more snow.

Sorry for the delay as I just relocated and I’m only now getting my comp up and running again.

I’m psyched to see all you guys respond!

I’ve also wanted to hit the La Sals- they are high on my list. Last year the snowpack didn’t develop enough to draw me in.

A friend runs the Tushar yurts and is very dialed on Voile gear- A group of splitters there would be cheap and welcome from Alec. I’ve splitted there twice, but want more.

I’ve done Deseret Peak in the Stansburys about 5 times, I’ll go again this year- it’s only 50 miles away and has chutes/bowls, N facing pow, it’s 11,000 plus feet and has easy access. I’d like to do a Fri night Sat/Sun trip there. Any takers? Brandon? Don?

I’ve been to GBNP to split, but never in winter. It would be ideal for a 4-5 day trip.

    Any suggetstions?

Come up to Wyoming and we can hook up some access right out of the ranch. Let me know. I’ve got a few trips planned back there and in the Tetons. Just give the word.

    Big bump for Karma Surf.

What’s up? You better come up to Shasta and/or the Eastern Sierra this spring.
