I haven’t spent much time in the central wasatch this and when I do it seems to be to repeat the same routes. with the lack luster snow i’ve been more focused on alpine climbing and mountaineering than making turns so I took two co-workers up west toledo ridge again. this is a fun scramble in the summer and almost better in the winter. it could be soloed no problem, but it’s 3 short pitches make for a fun morning practicing rope work.
the skin up pole line pass was god awful, ski crampons would have been nice. I ended up just putting the steel on and booting up from the trees directly up to the first pitch to avoid the last three kick turns. the ride down toledo chute was marginally better. Looks like we might get a little something the next few days. Hopefully it is enough to smooth out the teeth chattering snow conditions.
Originally planned to go to white pine but I ran into a couple fellows that had just dawn patrolled up in that area and they reported a lot less snow than the upper LCC zones where they rode on Sat. So I scrapped white pine and went upper LCC, somehow ended up on Superior rode Nfacing chutes, Sfacing still looked a bit bony. Lot’s of guys out wiggled my way around since when in Rome…….. Nfacing rode super deep, it was nice to get some turns again. Sfacing had a slight crust in spots but rode really nice as well. Hopefully will stay in the flow. Beautiful lines off both sides of Monte Looking at Wasatch’s West Toledo Ridge scramble route. Looks spicy to me, nice work. Take care
Since I was (am) a misanthropic weirdo and didn’t socialize with anyone during the WSF figure I’d better post something. A heinous day of bushswhacking (even by my standards) turned up some cool terrain and some much needed, yet variable turns, followed by the mother off all brushaineering routes. And for the record; fuck private property in the mountains, you people with your trashy places arent stewards of anything but tender egos and/or genetics gone awry…
My mood got less serious when I saw a FlavaFlave look alike pulled over next to the off-ramp getting head on the side of the road, trippy…
But I digress…
Lots of cracks, wind slab
MTB and trail running zones abound on the sunny side of the compass
Nice view to dig a pit, and out of the wind.
Some random snow pit mumbling, with a cameo by a local raptor.

Keep it classy Salt Lake City. Haha
I was hoping to read more people’s stoke from last week. Now that snow is falling and with WSF and all. I was sick all last week unfortunately so I missed everything. I need to live vicariously through you. My friend that I introduced to splitting this year won a new Palace split at the Brewvies event. Lucky her. Does anyone know if it was successful?
Get well soon WP, it sounds like winter is gonna get sent back to prison for violating its parole during this last week. Here some medicine from last weekend for you.
I’d say WSF was a success. Big turnout Saturday, not so big Sunday but good turns with good people throughout.
Since I haven’t broken out ‘big bird’ this season (195 swally) I decided to get out for a dawn patrol up to the PC ridge. Sorry no action shots, just self indulgent phone art pics….
It was a bit boney at the trail head, but blower above about 8000′. Was able to snurf it clean from the PC ridge to my truck, or about 2.5 miles. Big bird carries plenty of speed through flats so it was continuous wide grin session top to bottom.

Nice work Snurfer. Absolutely loved the video, keep em coming. So much love for you brother, was great to see you at the WSF. Huge success, great presentations and lot’s of good company. Thanks to Bucky and Kelly and Chimera for all the hard work. I like this venue way better, even though I had to drive a lot farther. Take care.
Thanks Nic, the feeling is mutual my friend. Its always good catching up with you. Next time on snow 🙂 Thanks Taylor, hope CO is treating you well. I didn’t go out on any of the tours for the fest, so I’m wondering about tour reports as well. On another note, a mutual friend introduced me to my snurfing idol at the opening night. The father of the swallowtail, Dimitri Milovich! I didn’t get a chance to talk snurfing with him, but it was still rad. The guy is so unassuming and down to earth, you’d never guess he was such a pivotal figure in our sport. It was ironic that most in attendance probably had no idea who he was.

Thanks Snurfer; I’m loving living amidst big mountains. I’m glad Dimitre showed up–the godfather of backcountry snowboarding. We all stand on his shoulders each time we strap in. I’d love to hear his thoughts on the powder shape Renaissance…

Indeed, I would have liked to talk more about boarding with him. While my friends and I were were talking kite surfing and ski touring with his lady, he spent considerable amount of time at the Furberg/Phantom display looking at the boards and flexing a pair of La Sportivas.

Have to take and injury break from running so I headed out west to explore a random canyon with my beater split and the mountain bike. Let’s just say the Stansbury’s have not fared well at all. South facing is completely bare up to at least 9500′ in most areas SW/W/NW is terribly lacking, not rideable N through E seemed okay above 9500′, but I never got that high due to the shit approach conditions, the 10-20′ stretches of protected facet blower were amazing for split skis 😉 Most of the MTB route sucked muddy ass due to ATV caused trail rapage
All in all an adventurous day and lots of good beta. I never transitioned my board and instead enjoyed a sunny day of split skiing choice mank lines 🙂

Hey all, haven’t ever posted here, but I do lurk and I was at the Wasatch Splitfest last year and this year.
Here are a few photos from the Sunday Splitfest Tour (3/1/2015) down East Fork Mineral. Thought you guys might enjoy them. They are also posted on the Wasatch Splitfest facebook page.
Hey guys. I have been out of commission for the last month or so with a dislocated hip. I’ve enjoyed looking at people’s stoke that they have posted though.
Would anyone have any interested to go and find some corn this weekend? I am not looking for anything too spicy just something fun.
Hey Logan, I’m sorry about your hip man, I spent eighteen miserable (mostly emotionally broken) months dealing with hip and back issues. It’s good to hear you are thinking of getting out. I’d certainly join you if I wasn’t mid-vacation and about to hit the road again for some scrambling and MTB in eastern Utah.
Anyways, super stoked you’re on the mend Logan if you decide not to do Speedgoat I’m looking for partners to fast pack the entire Uinta Highline in July/August, happy to have anyone else who can roll minimalist and run (jog) for four or six hours a day.
General update on my late season wander lust… Corn was pretty good in the La Sals this week, but overall that area is fading fast, so exits were sketchy. Abajos looked pretty good and some of the stuff in the Henrys might be good if one has a good 4×4 I spent a fair amount of time hiking and biking in the southern Henrys. I went into the Stansburys the previous week and it was just sad.
Doug- your photos are awesome! bummed that I became a slave to the desk during your time off I would have loved to join you for some of it. Let’s link up soon.
