Go out and get after it.+1FWIW I’m trying to keep my stoke level low for now, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t holding out hope that come Sunday afternoon I might make a few turns of the ole woody on a certain grassy slope in BCC.Aside from that, there are many mountain pursuits left to do until the snow flies, so I’m stoked with or without. More than anything I’m grateful beyond words that my health is starting to come back.Oops, sorry I digress… Let it snow!!!!!!!!Shark Snowsurf Chuna Voile V-Tail 170 BC Voile One Ninety Five Spark R&D Arc November 6, 2014 at 4:03 pm #677730 KR 159 PostsWinter sort of came to the Wasatch this weekend. So, we did what had to be done: Not a whole lot of snow up there. With high pressure back, it could all go to facets and we’ll have avalanches on that in February.Oh, well, this Fall has been freaking gorgeous! Looks like a cold fishing day, so sliding around and playing with my beacon might be a better bet. November 16, 2014 at 12:32 am #677738 UTAH 830 PostsI didn’t have plans to go up but got bored around 12. Planned on a snowshoe but brought the board just in case. Much more than expected, however the whole upper north facing llc is currently shut down to uphill traffic, which is basically the only possible place you could ride right now. Stuck to groomers and snowmobile tracks but guys were out bombing shit for sure. Snow was about 1-2ft + total, new was maybe about a foot of light density snow. Not enough of a slab to produce avalanches but increased winds tonight might load the faceted weak layer at the bottom, but not likely. Enjoyed this perspective especially as we slowly add weight to the pack. Also a good comparison to the LCC and BCC/Park city ridgeline/Uintahs and how how last year went. http://utahavalanchecenter.org/blog-storm-analysis-change-swe Take care. November 16, 2014 at 4:09 am #677739 KR 159 PostsThanks for the report UTAH!Update for tomorrow morning for all you splitboarders out there…Meeting at 9 in the Albion parking lot by the gate. Probably just going to skin up the summer road and see what it all looks like. Not really planning on riding much, but it’ll be good to stretch the legs. I’ll bring some extra beacons if we want to practice.Depending on numbers, maybe we’ll split into two groups.See you all up there! November 16, 2014 at 9:16 pm #677740 UTAH 830 PostsIt was great to meet up with everyone today. My pics from the day. I was wrong about the avalanches, although seemed like the guys that were triggering slides were trying pretty hard. Overnight winds picked up. Take care. November 16, 2014 at 9:40 pm #677741 Snurfer 1448 PostsKelly, thanks for initiating this meet-up, I had a good time :guinness: So good to meet some more forum folks in person and reconnect with old friends. Excited to do it again soon.A few skinning/scenics pics…Shark Snowsurf Chuna Voile V-Tail 170 BC Voile One Ninety Five Spark R&D Arc November 17, 2014 at 4:07 am #677742 KR 159 PostsYep, just a great day with quite a crew of splitboarders, thanks for making it happen everyone! :thumpsup:A picture from upper Albion after breaking off:The grassy groomers rode pretty nice actually, with a base that seemed relatively supportive up there. I don’t think any of us hit rocks, but we definitely rode cautiously. . I didn’t get any pictures of a snow profile up high, but in our group it looked like this:15cm of Fist hard 1-2mm facets on the groud, capped by some sort of temperature crust that was on the lesser side of 1 cm thick. The crust had some smaller facets right underneath it.There was another 35 cm new snow on top of that, which was sort of acting ‘slabby’. On three instances in an informal quick hand pit, a single column failed repeatedly, on the facets below the crust, all on isolation (with my ski poles). We also got quite a few small localized collapses above 9500 feet.Man, I think that if there was a big storm happening tomorrow that deposited a decent slab, there would be lots of big avalanches.Anyone else up there today? 😀 November 17, 2014 at 4:39 pm #677743 Snurfer 1448 PostsAfter breaking off, our group experienced nearly identical snow structure and localized collapsing above 9K’, with a few differences due to aspect and added elevation.Notably, our ascent took us onto NE/E where in some places a lot of snow had accumulated (up to 3′) along minor cliff bands adjacent to Cecret Lake. At 10.5K’ the wind was very strong and in places had created unbreakable wind board and/or scoured the ground bare. All of the snow being moved by the cats was instantly being frozen, making for a rough ride. Lower down the snow was quite nice, if a bit shark infested – stay vigilant out there folks.Shark Snowsurf Chuna Voile V-Tail 170 BC Voile One Ninety Five Spark R&D Arc November 18, 2014 at 4:14 am #677744 wasatch surf 979 Postsrad looks like a gorgeous day! sorry I missed it, but I am stubborn and wanted to chase fish around. 14degrees when I got to the river but still got a few eats. Kind of has become my tradition to get the season started although I usually have 5 tour under my belt before I do it. this year i’ll be coming straight off the couch so that should be eye opening. these events are bad ass and they have always been really open to splitboarders attending. Hope to see a lot of you up there. Viewing 20 posts - 1 through 20 (of 215 total) 1 2 3 … 9 10 11 →You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
