I was able to squeeze out a quick tour this morning. Did one lab from wolverine peak down to mary lake. North facing was still dry but it had settled some. Still rode amazing, especially for mid april.

Another pic of some more north wind cornices..

The chute was a bit wind scoured near the top.

    Is it swimming season yet?

All this talk on the Oqhirrh weather thread got me excited to get out there. This morning I biked up the closed Middle Canyon Road to the White Pine Flat road, where I was able to begin skinning (~6800′). I skinned up the drainage, and then through a beautiful aspen glade to the ridge east of White Pine Cirque Peak. From there I ascended/traversed to Piney Pass and thence up to Kelsey Peak. Rode the east face of Kelsey Peak for about 2200 feet of best-I’ve-ever-had-in-Utah corn. It was really good. Really good. Too bad its so warm this afternoon and gonna be even warmer tomorrow. I’m sure the refreeze tomorrow morning will be totally superficial. After that I ascended a snowfree ridge to the top of White Pine Cirque and descended that back to my bike, then coasted back to the car. The corn in White Pine Cirque wasn’t quite as good as run one, but still high quality. The north facing parts of the cirque held nice settled powder down to about 9500′. That will probably change by tomorrow though.

Sorry, no camera, no pics. It doesn’t look like there will be any precip for a while, and hopefully cooler temps this coming week will continue the corn harvest.

attempted the grunge the other day. way too damn hot and the mountain started falling down around us, rode one of the pinball alleys and got the hell out. long walk for a 2000 ft shot, but it was a real nice day and no one around until we got back to the parking lot.

    Not today

    You shall not pass!

    Weird

What a good season it was. Fun touring with new people and wish I could have hooked up with more people off of here. Does anyone know when the Uintas start to melt out? I am getting antsy about getting some trail runs in. Anyone want to trail run this summer?

Why wait until summer? 😉 If its vert you’re looking for, I’ve been getting up to the 8500-9000′ range lately. Shoot me a txt if you wanna go there.

    Teletubbies wear capes?

Those bindings are an offense to my eyes (which, given the pants you’re wearing in that shot, is no light insult). Come around and pick up that set of demo Phantoms I’ve got!

    in case anyone was curious..

SouthWillow Canyon road in the Stansburies.

Closed at the boy scout camp, 2 miles from the dry fork trailhead.

North facing thawed out enough to be fun around 1230.

good continous coverage to about 8500, maybe lower.

It’s getting warm out there. Are the walls coming down yet? I was hoping for a summit on Saturday.

Switchback – that’s a great line. Its definitely on my list.

Tried for a Superior summit today but the lack of refreeze overnight and the warm temperatures kept me from it. The snow got way too sloppy so we had to call it a day. We witnessed a natural of cardiac ridge.

Its was a beautiful day though.

Had a fantastic run (the kind with with shorts and shoes) up to the north aprons of Gobblers yesterday.
If you don’t mind getting up really early and lugging your stuff up to at least 8500′ it might be a fun place to do laps while its in the morning shade.
Aside from that it was truly epic running straight up and down Pole Canyon on consolidated snow…

Wished I’d had a snow skate for the down, would have been most excellent!

Have a swell summer spitters :guinness:

Packraft chute? You didn’t flip a raft and lose ANOTHER ski, I hope?

    I’m jealous.

Went with Bucky Saturday and then met up with some friends in the Stansbury Mountains for some more shreding. I tried to keep a slow pace Saturday as I knew it would be a long day so thanks for putting up with me!

Here is looking down ‘packraft chute’ Those turns were money I must say.

I got to the trailhead in the Stansbury Mountains at 8PM so I was treated to a nice sunset while I went to meet up with the homies camping.

Bucky: The chute from the summit is totally doable on a good year with a rap at the bottom.

The twins have gotten hammered this year? I have ridden them for three years now and have never seen tracks on them until this year. I guess more people are actually getting outside of the snatch now?
