Boots: Have seen 3 winters of use but are in pretty good shape. I really like these boots as they are realatively light and go from super soft to pretty stiff with the flip of a few buckles. They make for a great transition from a soft boot set-up to the hard boots. All buckles work. The velcro power strap is a bit worn. Yes they do smell, but if you act fast, I can offer you new Black Diamond liners for $100 so you can add your own odour. Bindings: Love these as like their name suggest, they are bomber (for the most part-read on). Very simple and lightweight design using both titanium and aluminum. Made in Colorado and used by pro racers around the world. The bad: one of the adapter plates has cracked and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, the company no longer carries them as they now have an updated version of the binding. You will need to find a local machine shop and have them fab you up a new one for ~$40 or grab a piece of aluminum stock and drill some holes to do it yourself. All in all a great setup for somebody looking to try out hard plates for a minimal investment. Sure to give you years of performance once the plate has been replaced. As far as hard boot set-up. . .I love it and feel it is really the only way to go. I have been splitting since Voile sold the first kit. Almost all of those years have been on hard plates. They give you far more control while skinning–especially on the sidehills dut to the increase lateral stability. Eliminate the slop and noise you sometimes get when the heal of the soft boot rides up in a soft binding. And, they give you the option of using step-in crampons–a must for the split-mountaineer.$200 (or $300 with new liners). plus $25 shipping in the US. New, this setup would cost close to $1000!
