Got the call the other day to go make some August turns up in RMNP. I figured why not since I ended my season a little premature this year. Got out with my buddy Mike Leago and my old intern Tyler Boyde. It was nice to put on the ole boots and make some turns!!

Injuries are no bueno, glad to see you are back out there riding. Hopefully the knee is feeling good now. And it looks like you guys scored some decent turns for August.

Splitboarding is the answer unless Splitbooting is the answer, either way we're going snowboarding because America!

Nice work, I though about heading up to the Park for the free entry weekend, but didn’t make it. Looks like a lot of fun. I know Mike L from a summer camp type program I worked with him. Haven’t gotten the chance to ski with him yet though.

How long was the approach to Lambslide?

Thanks boys, it was great to get out and slide down hill. The slog in is not that bad. Its 5 miles to the base of Chasm Lake which only took us about 3 hours to get to. Once you hit the lake though the scrambling starts and its slow going around the lake and up to the snow climb. This time of year the snow is pretty hard with minimal corning going on. Still was great to just get up in this basin and be surrounded by all of this rock!!

Did you guys have to use crampons? I’m trying to ride every month, and I’m looking for somewhere to go other than St. Mary’s Glacier. Went there for July and it sucked. Thanks!

Thanks BC Rider, felt good to be in the Alpine again that’s for sure!!

Ehcarley be sure to bring an ax and crampons, there is no way you could boot or kick steps in that stuff, especially if your in soft boots. Even in my hard boots i could not have kicked steps.

Nice to see you guys riding all summer. I haven’t even looked at my board in two months. 😳

Did your route up to the Lamb’s Slide parallel the standard Long’s Peak route? If so, you had to have run into a hundred summer peak-baggers that asked you the same ridiculous questions about your gear, activity, and general sanity. Any good stories?

ehcarley, the Isabelle Glacier is a good choice for August and September. Much lower consequences for error than Lamb’s Slide, and a less daunting approach in my opinion. The talus creeping around Chasm Lake to the base of the Lamb’s Slide is something I never want to do again. In June you cruise it on snow.
