Hey all, it’s great to know this forum exists. I’ve been riding a Voile 166 FS for the last 3 years. I’m 6’4″ and about 210lb, so things have been a little noodly and sinking lately.

I’m torn between a new Voile 171 mountain gun or a 173 Freestyle. I can only afford 1 board for everything: trees, powder, traverses and ice if that is possible. Is the stiff flex of the gun going to make it less of an all around board, or will a fat ass like me be able to bend it regardless?

Some of the areas I access have a return on a single track hiking trail, so ability of tighter turns is a plus. It would be great to get some insight from those which have experienced these boards or could recommend something else.

I have the mtn gun 171, 05-06 model from last season,i love it. Its stiff as hell. Someone as big as you should def. be rockin the big gun,IMO. I haven’t ridden the Freeride. I thought Mr. DJ at Voile said that they were takin a little of the stiffness out of the gun this year, should be perfect.

I would get the mtn gun if you have the chance. I got last years mtn gun, a 171, and loved it. I’m 6’2 180lbs or so and felt the board handled very well. I do however prefer a stiffer board for steep couliours etc. I think you would find the freeride a little soft. I don’t know the new board, so maybe it would suit you. But if you want something a little more stiff for spring riding, variable conditions etc… look at the old mtn gun. I think a few people here would back me up.

    Oops I meant free ride…

The gun sounds best. I guess I won’t be saving that $50. How does it do in deep pow and tight spaces? Anyone know where the best prices are?

I didn’t get my Mtn gun until the end of last season(tax return) so i only got like two or three days on it. It all just depends on how good you are at riding in cramped spaces i suppose. Its longer(171) so maybe a wee bit harder. I did take it thru some very tight trees up at the pass,it takes a little gettin used to but made it thru no problem. Its a big mountain powder harvestin machine so you cant go wrong. I’d def go thru Voile, everything ya need (interface, skins) comes with it. And the price isn’t too terrible.
