I’ve been itching to head back to Jackson ever since our first trip out there earlier this year. My GF (Miss Spank) and I loaded up my Jeep and after an eight-hour drive from Boulder to Jackson, we met up with our friend Aaron to discuss some options/ideas for the week ahead of us. It didn’t take long for us to decide to hop right back in the car the next day and drive to Elko, NV. So after a morning lap on Glory and another eight hours in the car, we were in the Ruby Mountains of Nevada aiming to ski one of the most aesthetic couloirs I’ve seen, Terminal Cancer.

We came down to the Rubies with pretty much no beta on the conditions. It was definitely a gamble, but the payoff was huge.

    CHECK!

The car ride back to Jackson was mostly quiet, as we were all too busy grinning ear to ear about riding Terminal Cancer in knee deep blower. Occasionally, one of us would start laughing randomly at the fact we drove a total of sixteen hours for a half day of riding. Does anyone know if TC has seen a female splitboard descent? Just curious…

Can someone tell us what the hell this is for?

The next day, we had our eyes set on “Chute the Moon” and “Buck Chuter” couloirs in GTNP. Neither of them are particularly long couloirs by Teton standards, but when linked together can make for a great tour. We enjoyed open turns in flat light down “Chute the Moon” then traversed over to “Buck Chuter” where we patiently waited for two guys below us to make their way down the chute. We opted not to bring a rope and rappel like the guys ahead of us and instead downclimb.

Aaron wondering if we should have brought a rope…

We traversed out and enjoyed amazing views of the Tetons, satisfied with another day in the Tetons

Tuesday was good. It was soooo good that we only took one picture.

Wednesday was our last day in town before we had to head back to Boulder. I had a wedding to attend in Ft. Lauderdale that cut our trip a few days short, but by this time I was pretty tired already. We went up to Togwotee Pass to ski “Radio Antenna” off an unnamed Buttress. With the sound of snowmobilers echoing behind us, we wallowed up the apron until we found good climbing condition in the couloir itself…and rocks. From a distance it looked pretty good, but once we were in the couloir itself that wasn’t the case. We climbed to the top, only realizing then that there was no good place to strap in due to the very firm snow, so we downclimbed to a spot that had softened up allowing us to dig out a bench to set up on. We had soft turns on this spring-like day with a bunch of snowmobiliers at the bottom watching us.

    Stoked!!!!

    Not so Stoked…

BUT our day wasn’t over yet….

Miss Spank looking for more adventure

    Success!! Hot Springs!

Also, here’s a POV video I put together of Terminal Cancer/Buck Chuter if you’re interested.

It was a pretty awesome week for the Miss and I, I’m super stoked on spring and even my next trip to Jackson (whenever that may be). BIG thanks to _Aaron_ for everything, we owe ya bud. You’ve always got a couch to crash on in Boulder.

Well, that looks like a pretty bitchen road trip! And the best conditions in Terminal Cancer I’ve seen in a TR. I’ve been reading Aarons reports on TGR, he’s been killing it this season. Does he post here?

so let me get this right. you are from boulder? and you road tripped to jackson, only to decide that more road tripping was in order? as crazy as it sounds, to me it still sounds like an epic adventure! good going on scoring the TC in good conditions. its been on my list for a while and im sure some new folks who didnt know about it just added it to theirs 😉 – also nice shots from WY and glad you got some good lines there also.

Yes. You are right. Did about 32 hours of driving total from Boulder (Left Friday)->Jackson->Elko, NV(Left Saturday, Returned Sunday)->Jackson->Boulder(Returned Thursday at 7ish)

AND THEN caught a Friday 1AM redeye from DIA to Detroit->Ft. Lauderdale for a 4:00PM wedding. ->fly to ATL (on Sunday) for an extended layover to spend more time with my family->back to DIA at 11PM last night to make it back for my 9AM class today.

Pretty crazy week of travel…not really sure how I did it.

rico: Not really sure if Aaron posts on here or not, I think he lurks around a bit thou.

Glad I could provide to the stoke this place offers :thatrocks:

Is this the “Radio Antenna” area you went to? This was our view when we were at WY Scrubfest riding Two Oceans. We were wondering if there were lines to ride over there.

What hot springs did you hit up?

36 hours of driving…oh man…that’s truck driver hero hours…Nice TR

In fact, there’s two. Pretty good roadside hits. I think the other one is called “Radio Tower” or something and has way more snow in it. RA’s snowpack was pretty shallow so there were a lot of rocks once we made it past the exit choke.
