Looks like a good day today. Any reports from the lucky mid-week riders out there? 8) January 31, 2006 at 5:42 pm #586034 Ecobrad 2068 Posts Looks like some high water content snow coming tonight through Thursday. Unfortunely, I’m not a mid-week rider though. 😥 😥 January 31, 2006 at 6:38 pm #586035 dfinn 138 Posts I am at work instead of out shredding the gnar like I should be but last nights storm seemed to deliver some nice light snow. Mt Rose claims 10 – 14″, my guess would be closer to 10 but maybe more, I probably got 6 – 8 at my place in incline. It sounds like the next storm will show up tomorrow and the snow will have a much higher water content and a higher snow level, but i’m hearing another foot above 7k is possible. February 1, 2006 at 4:12 am #586036 fustercluck 668 Posts I hit up the ski area and sidecountry today. There is definitely a crust under the new snow, pretty easy to get sluffs going and possibly release to some lower layers where the crust can be punched through. It was cold all day and a rapid warming with wet snow or rain on top of the light density snow sounds a bit sketchy to me avywise, but I hope I’m wrong. Upper elevations seemed to be holding together a bit better though. February 1, 2006 at 6:36 am #586037 JayTe 25 Posts Excellent windblown. 6″ to 12″ NE sides of crossloaded gully’s. BUTTER some signs of soft slabs going last night but I couldn’t get anything to release. gotta love the Seirra’s February 3, 2006 at 6:43 am #586038 Anonymous 76 Posts WTF! I was really loving the Sierras a few days ago, but after two days of rain at all elevations, not so much love right now. Or maybe it’s global warming I should be hating? 😡 February 3, 2006 at 5:05 pm #586039 Anonymous 76 Posts CRAP – what happened up there. Saturday looks like it will be crazy windy, but at least the snow levels will be lower. God I hope it doesn’t suck next week. Or maybe it’s global warming I should be hating? 😡 the squaw report (good because it gives totals for the year) http://www.squaw.com/winter/snowfall.html said that monday we got 10″ and then Wed and Thurs each 1-2″ (all at 8,200′). just to confirm, the reality is that warm rain we’ve been having in the Bay Area was the ultimate bummer: rain here, rain there? all elevations? February 3, 2006 at 6:34 pm #586044 dfinn 138 Posts rain here at lake level and it sure looks like rain or very little new snow at higher elevation in the mount rose area. unless saturday is bigger than they are predicting I don’t think things are going to be all that great. Chance of precit late this week or this weekend, with heavy chances early next week. Very cold with snow levles ’round 2000-2500…. Question is, if this comes in as cold as planned, and as gradual as planned, are we going to be looking at significant weak points in the snowpack due to the difficulty in bonding to the hard freeze showing up first thing in the morning on most aspects? Supposed to be a bit of wind early on which will only make things worse due to difficulty in bonding to the old snow. Probably be a bit sketchy for a little longer than usual after the first few snows…. Just mumbling aloud… Guess have to wait and see since this is still a week away at best guess… Anyway, can’t wait for Winter Part 2 to start…. Crossing my fingers… Greg - NoKnees February 17, 2006 at 10:41 pm #586047 SanFrantastico 1514 Posts Nice, dfinn! Will you give us an update Saturday night?? Please?? Still coming down hard with no wind, nice light snow. February 22, 2006 at 4:05 am #586050 Anonymous 76 Posts it was really good at Mt.
