Last Friday/Saturday we received our first significant snowfall of the year in VT. Central VT received the most snow at the most elevations. Northern VT had too much maritime flow at the lower elevations so the snow didn’t accumulate much below 2,800 ft. However, at the top of the gonola at Stowe (~3,600 ft), there was probably close to 18″ of heavy compacted snow. Definitely thick enough to lay it over with all my might and not worry about bottoming out.

Saturday morning I got after it with my girlfriend and the dog. We had the splits in the car but didn’t bust them out because there was only a slushy few inches at the base – I was riding all the way to the parking lot, none of this hiking down bs.

Check out the quick video, all shot with a GoPro

I knew you guys had a storm, but I was sketpical when my buddy told me he rode Doc’s and FIS as Smuggs. Good stuff and way to get after it! Turns before us in Colorado can really get after it. Very impressive for Vermont. I don’t remember snow ever that early.

    :headbang: NICE…

I keep telling my brother to join this site, perhaps he will after we split his old Custy 64 this winter he will. He’s based out of Jericho (with a sweet view of Mansfield backside from his house).

I think he went up yesterday to Smuggs. I get out to see him at least once over each winter. He’s always looking for resort/backcountry partners since his schedule has him with numerous weekdays off.

Oh and he’s a meteorologist for the NWS out of the Burlington office at BTV, so his forecasts always have an eye for the mountain totals.

    Nice Vid!

We didn’t get as much in Jay… Top pf Vermonter was about 8-12in tops. Cover wasn’t all that great. We made turns down Vermonter, Haynes, Jet and then returned all the way down to the car by the northway… didn’t use the splitboard either… i didn’t feel like walking!

That’s till 8″-12″ more than we have out on Washington. I don’t remember it snowing that much this early when I lived out there.

I’ve been able to ride 12-14in on Oct 11th a few years back… I remember riding more then 32in of snow a couple years back on Oct 29th or something:

We do get some form of snow each year in October… sometimes it’s just a dusting… sometime it’s great… This year was just OK.

    Season’s on!

Very cool… we got a few flakes in Central VT this morning, but nothing of any significance. Can’t wait for a good season. I’m cutting my first board this weekend, wish me luck.

Has anyone been up Mansfield lately? I just got back into town Monday night and saw snow on the ground in Waterbury. The splitty’s done and ready to roll.

Smuggs locals represent! Place was great growing up. The backbowls are what fueled my desire to get off resort.
