Wasn’t expected much in terms of snow quality since high elevation rain pretty much blanketed every aspect with a thick sheet of ice. So I went up to a lazy part of the Wasatch to stretch the legs. Ended up being pretty good, fun enough to hit some steep chutes. This area is every jibbers paradise, more sidecountry than backcountry with every sort of Jib feature imaginable. Even ended up packing out a nice cliff pop. The last line is from another day, super sick line but the light was so flat I couldn’t see shit. [youtube:1xwo3m2g]WWSRGi9XQww[/youtube:1xwo3m2g] Much thanks to HikeForTurns for being patient and teaching me how to embed this stuff. Loving the GoPro but 1.) It’s got to be some gnarly shit to look half way decent and 2.) I can see it getting old fast, however having fun for now.
Nice vid! Gopros rule!! (contour hd’s don’t compare…obv ppl that bought these are gonna disagree 😆 if this is a contour then I guess I’m an idiot though!) Way to post it 3 times!!!!
nice videos…I just got a good deal on a contour hd…Its fun I can see it getting old pretty quick too, unless you do some follow cam or something besides all POV footage
how are you editing your videos? im doing mine in iMovie from quicktime clips, seems like my footage is not coming out as sharp as other videos… need to tinker with some adjustments
I also agree helmet cams do not do your line any justice
I know people who use both and it seems more prefer the GoPro
Thanks guys. Yeah Mar123 I’m using the imovie that came on my mac. I’ve got a lot to learn, including how to keep my posts to one 😳 I have heard from multiple people the go pro just comes out cleaner/brighter, but then it also sits a little more akward on the noggin than the contour from what I hear. Take care.
Yeah, I kinda stopped carrying mine because it made everything look flat. (Or maybe its just cause thats all I ride here in CO. ) I’m going to try it again, I think its key to shoot others riding to get some great vids, mix it up, throw in some unusual stuff. That said, a lot of times I never finish watching a POV. Ive always been more of a photo guy I guess.
agreed with everyone that POV is boring but then again i don’t feel like riding with a spinning, weighted ski pole on my head so i guess it’s POV and follow footage for now.
GoPro probably takes better out of box video, but i like the filter options and mounting options of the contour more.
and last but not least…Nic way to give wolverine a what for!
All stoke Utah, thanks for bringing steep chute riding back to the forum. With the warm temps and gear talk I almost forgot why I love snowboarding.
PS There’s this thing in snowboarding some of us like to do, it’s called “the turn” :thatrocks:
Pictures just don’t show someone’s style like video. All this time I thought Utah was just another Viole loving, hairy, swallowtail riding, LA transplant, rasta, bowl riding, old dude. :thatrocks:
I guess I’m one of the only ones that doesn’t think POVs are boring. Sure, if you’re riding boring terrain they’re boring, but in that case so are still photos. Stopping for good still photos also takes a lot of restraint which I typically don’t have as I’d rather ride a run top to bottom without a bunch of interludes to mess up the flow.
If you asked (which I know you didn’t), I’d say always bring it with you to the trailhead, put it in your pack if you feel like it, and then wear it for a run or two if you’re so inclined. If the stars align, it’ll look cool like this one did, and then post that shit up 8).

Hahaha. Well said Eco and nice riding UTAH! That is a sweet video!
I am kinda lazy about dragging out the gopro sometimes, but when you know you are heading out into terrain like this, I wouldn’t hesitate. I also like using them when mobbing down some lines with the bros. How many people actually get the opportunity to see themselves ride and learn from it.

A friend of mine started the day once by proclaiming “Turns are for beginners and girls!” by the end of the day he’d modified it to “Turns are for beginners, girls and corners.” Fair.
Nice vid, Utah, and nice lines!
Have you tried mounting facing backwards on a hand held pole? From what I’ve seen, those shots make the terrain look steeper and the shot more involving, because you see more of what’s going on. The Yancy Caldwell ad for Smith on here is a great example.
Damn, when I saw that hit coming into view at 1:38,I started to chub up. Looks like videogame land. Your zone is much cooler than mine. Take me with you? :thatrocks:
