Forums Splitboards Split my own board or buy a splitboard? Viewing 8 posts - 1 through 8 (of 8 total)Author Posts December 9, 2009 at 4:32 am #572502 Adventure 4 PostsNewbie to the forums here. Sold my Buron S Series, didn’t like the Burton hardware and the board was too soft for me. So, I have a 5 year old Arbor A-Frame that I love, have ridden both resort powder and backcountry powder on it and I love the stick. So my question is, do I split the Arbor A Frame, or just buy a splitboard?I wont split it myself as I’m sure I’d screw it up. I would consider using these guys to do the job:http://customsplitboards.com/index.php?pr=Splitboard_PackagesDoes anyone have experiece on how well splitting a regular board works compared to an actual splitboard? Also, Looks like there are some new hardware products out there. I would love something lighter, and lower to the board than my Burton setup was.Any comments / feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Much! Some “solid” boards have any stringers and other diagonal constructions inside for more torsion acerbity. Afaik, A-frame is one of such boards. By sawing them you might worsen it. But any board with simple wood core are suitable to be a split, I sure. Check your board construction before sawing..sorry for my bad English.. A very used solid board will very quickly turn into a noodle of a splitboard, IMHO.Venture, Prior, Voile and Never Summer are making some KILLER splits now. Buy a slightly used one if you can afford new. December 10, 2009 at 6:48 pm #623261 Adventure 4 PostsSo if I split a slightly used, or new regular snowboard, and split it, how would it compare a an actual splitboard? For example, I bought A Venture Storm this year for my regular board. I don’t plan on splitting it, but for argument sake. Venture makes the same board in a split version. If I were to split the board, how would it compare to the actual Venture Storm splitboard?Just trying to get a decent apples to apples comparison. I can get a great deal on a 1 year old Arbor Abacus that I’ve ridden and love it in powder. It would still come out cheaper than getting a new splitboard, and would be a board that I already know that I like riding in powder. Thanks December 10, 2009 at 8:16 pm #623262 powderjunkie 1669 Postsany solid that you split will be heavier. Flex can be a little stiffer if you put in inside edges or less stiff without.I thought those Abascus boards were really heavy. Fun in pow but heavy. I personally would look for light weight boards to split. December 10, 2009 at 8:18 pm #623263 powderjunkie 1669 PostsIf you have Monk split your board it will ride just as good as a factory split.
