Exceptional snowfalls are cutting down on the Italian Eastern Alps with accumulations impressive, even higher than the 5/6 meter of new snow
Countries and isolated towns, large avalanches. Unable to do freeride .. In some areas it’s snowing non-stop for almost 7 days and more snow forecasts announced for the next 72 hours.
This is one of the snowiest winters, with perturbations in the Atlantic series was not the case for some time. Can not find a clear day for trips

    Unbelievable, indeed.

Have been to Valdidentro and Livigno last week, conditions were amazing.

North of the main alpine ridge however, we suffer from having only very little snow. (pretty the other way round as it is usually)

It’s crazy also in Slovenia. Avalanche report is 5/5, I don’t remember last time that avalanche danger was 5.
In slovenia we have additional problems now also with ice: over 10% of country is out of electricity due to broken electrical pillars or broken wire.

Yeah, but dude.. It’s a two hour drive for you. I have to drive 11 hours to get some snow so don’t complain. For me this is the best season yet.

Most of your drive goes over flat straight German highways without speed limit :D.
2hrs? As the bird flies, maybe. Don’t own a heli thus at least 4hrs to only reach Domodossola, waiting time in the Gotthard jam not included. The Alps are a pretty solid high wall going east-west separating north from south with only few bottle neck tunnels. What looks close on a map can easily take a lot of time to reach (nice extreme example: Zermatt (CH) and Ayas (I) are 24km apart as the bird flies but 240km by road.

Good thing that there is still Andermatt  Not quite as much snow but still pretty decent compared to the sorry white patches in other areas. And you dont need to go through the Gotthard…unless you miss the exit…but who would do that…

This very moment I was trying to figure out if I’ll book Andermatt or Arflina for an upcoming avy refresh course, and researching for a guide for an additional hike day (haven’t been to both places yet). You’ve got a recommendation?

Vacationing in Veneto in early May.
Looks like enough snow to bring my gear/board?
