I just returned from a great trip to Sequoia National Park in California. Epic conditions. Six-point-two-mile hike to the Pear Lake Ski Hut, three great days. Sequoia is my usual playground as my family has a house near there and there is decent access all year. I noticed on the site the picture of Dan Mingori on California’s Sawtooth Ridge in the “splitboard shop†March 4, 2006 at 5:25 am #587222 knucklesplitter 340 Posts Welcome! Didn’t know there’s a hut at Pear Lake. Sounds fun. Any pics? Sawtooth Ridge is accessed on the east side from the end of Twin Lakes Rd. out of Bridgeport. The road is plowed to the campground in winter. About 4-5 miles out and 5k’ or so to Matterhorn, Twin Peaks, Cleaver, etc. I assume that’s where you’re talking about. I’ll have to look at a map and check that route. J March 4, 2006 at 6:07 am #587224 sbboarder 13 Posts hi, I just looked at a map. We access Sawtooth Peak on the west side from the town of Three Rivers, CA. My family’s house is on Mineral King road, which leads directly into Mineral King. In the spring you can hike up to the west side of Sawtooth Peak and get good corn. The picture on the site looks like the same Sawtooth Peak, but the east side of the ridge. It appears Bridgeport is on the East side of the Sierras? I think the Sawtooth I’m talking about would be way to far from there. Unless I’m somehow mistaken? thanks, Justin March 4, 2006 at 6:35 am #587225 knucklesplitter 340 Posts Sorry Justin. My mistake. I know that photo you mentioned was taken at the Sawtooths near Bridgeport. There must be two “Sawtooth”s in CA. Too bad, I was hoping there was access from Three Rivers. Thanks for the info though. Sounds like a pretty cool area. Maybe I’ll have to check it out sometime. I’ve only been there in the summer, but I hiked up to Franklin Lakes and always wondered what that would be like in the snow. White Chief bowl is supposed to be pretty decent too. I think one of the Sierra backcountry ski books mentions a couple descents in the area, I believe it’s the Ritchins book.
