Skatebananas (who moved last week from Vermont), JCMarechal, and myself went out expecting blue bird skies and to get into some gnarly terrain, but our plans changed when we hit the whiteout in Silverton. There was 5 inches in the parking lot when we showed up and it puked snow all day. By the end of the day Saturdaythere was 18+ inches and it was still dumping. I’ll take that. The next day we went back to a similar area with Washwood, and thankfully he was a machine and broke trail almost the whole time, because Skatebananas and my legs were pretty shot from breaking on Saturday. All in all, super deep weekend that rates in the tops for days on a hill sliding sideways.Skatebananas showing he can splitski in powder And then snowboard in it Washwood getting after it I’m in there somewhere. Small pillow, but deep pillow. Summersgone It was cold for pictures, which is why there aren’t a ton, but we did manage to get some clips to edit. Summersgone (black jacket) and Skatebanans (yellow) showing Vermonters do know how to ride Colorado cold smoke. February 7, 2011 at 4:33 pm #635914 SickSplitty 32 PostsNice lookin pics!! Don’t ever trust the weather man in the San Juans. Or Colorado in general for that matter. I’ve been in the San Juans for over 25 years. 2 inches can range from 2-10 feet. Always be careful in that area. Be prepared to spent the night if you can’t get out. I’ve seen it snow over 2 inches an hour for over 48 hours!! Looks like you guys had a blast. So much for Vermont. I thought you were getting it up there recently? Isn’t a bunch of Colorado guys up there? I guess thats why I haven’t seen a trip report from the PNW in a while. La nina will spite you soon enough with pow and I will be expecting some stoke from the north. February 7, 2011 at 11:53 pm #635920 jcocci 699 PostsWe were gettin in at the turn of the year and its pretty much been crap since with the exception of a few days here and there. Been getting the precip but just too warm. Yeah a group from Colorado was here, think they left. Not sure how it ended up in the end for them. Think they had a mixed bag of conditions. Was going to hook up with them one day but ended with other plans. February 8, 2011 at 1:24 am #635921 HikeforTurns 1114 PostsNice work with the POV, looked great!
