Been reading on here for a few years and was superstoked to sign up for the second generation of Phantom splitboard bindings.
I had John ship them to me in San Francisco, but they never showed up.
USPS tracking says “Delivered”, but they were never received.
I am devastated. 1000USD gone. No bindings, no explanation from USPS or anything, and no insurance. Feeling rather helpless.
As you all know there is a pretty small niche market for these, so if they are stolen they might show up here on the forum or maybe through someone that you know, knows.
The set is easily reckonised: baseplates and board plates are orange, whilst the other alu parts are red. I already had bails so these are not included in the set.
I will happily offer a reward to anyone that can help me out!
Really sad day. I’ve tried checking into this and basically because USPS says that it was delivered, doesn’t matter that the package had insurance as this is not considered a lost package.
Those in the SF area, can you keep an eye out for these bindings on the resale market?
We thought this happened to my roommates board last week. Usps said it had been delivered but it never showed up. It turned out that the company she ordered it from sent it to an old address that they had saved on her profile from years ago. They made it right though. Could something like this have happened?
Sorry to hear about that, that’s a real bummer. I imagine they left it on your doorstep correct? But I gotta ask, why did you/they ship USPS instead of UPS/FedEx?
This is why I use private carriers (such as UPS and FedEx) and NOT the USPS for valuable shipments. You can give them much more specific instructions (ie. require a signnature for delivery). Yes, it does cost more but its worth having that sort of reliability/insurance.

you can do that with the post office too. But, the seller has to ask or require these things.
Did you call the postmaster general in your area? Dont stop with your local postal office, notch it up.
and for all of you, if you are getting high dollar gear through any carrier ask the shipper for a signature conformation.

Good to know, but I still have little faith in the USPS. My company has a relatively small online store (when compared to Amazon) so we deal a lot with shipping books/merchandise thru the USPS so I see more of the dark side to them. Lost packages with perfectly good addresses, returned packages with perfectly good address, absolutely destroyed packages, etc. You get what you pay for…
USPS is a joke, really. As for leaving expensive packages on the stoop, I don’t understand that either. Someone else mentioned an address change issue. I went through such an ordeal in the fall. If you’ve had an address change, it might have got sent to your old address and forwarded to your current post office.
I’ve had packages that were “delivered” to houses across the street. Makes me feel slightly better about the box of Christmas/Birthday presents my mom sent for my son – delivered this afternoon on our deck, but a bear got to the package before we did 😯 Shredded the box, but left a package of goldfish untouched
this is one of the top 5 worst things i’ve ever heard.
i’m going with USPS delivered to neighbors address or someone stole it off of your porch. since john had all of us provide addresses pretty recently I doubt it was sent to an old address unless you moved like two weeks ago. I hope it was a splitboarder that took them and we might have a change of seeing them. Most likely it was some punk that took it, opened it, didn’t know what the fuck it was, and tossed it somewhere. I hope a miracle happens and you get reunited. what a waste of money on your part and a lot of time and money and johns. such a shame :nononno:
I’m sure after this experience john will reevaluate shipping carriers. In the future I would be all for UPS vs USPS on phantom shipping. If you go that route make sure you don’t use UPS economy as they hand off all final deliveries to the post office-no insurance, no ability to intercept and change delivery, no control.
That is a bummer…big time…I say we start a donation pool for Dan. After all he’s a Norwegian and they invented touring ya know.
if we each kicked in 5-10 bucks…it would take long for us to raise the money. After all it’s Christmas and we’re splitters, eh!
I’ll kick in the 1st $20…everybody whom wants to donate..just put a reply and what you’d like to donate.
I like this idea. Keffler didn’t steal the bindings and as far as I know this is the first time this has happened with his product. Not sure why someone would even want these. Pretty specific use. Is there another splitter where you live? :nononno:
So after reading this some of you would just change the shipper and still not require a signature for delivery? For an item with a worth net of 1000 dollars?
John. Protect yourself. Ups,fed ex, Dahl,USPS or donkey and cart, you want your prize? Sign the paper
I though about this yesterday. I bought an 800 dollar gimbal from China. The vendor required an adult signature it was shipped USPS. I was not at home Tuesday so I got one of those orange slips of paper. Yesterday I gave the postman my orange notice. He went back and brought the box. And the. Said ” as soon as you show me picture ID you can sign and have your package. That’s pretty hard to screw up
however there might be a snag with this issue. These were all made to order and it might not be possible to get another set made right now, and if so the cost might be higher as he would have to be producing one unit vs. 30. If it can happen i’m happy to contribute.
