So I have enjoyed my Malamutes, but after about 100 days I feel like the life is beginning to quickly seep out of them. I have one pair of boots for hiking and riding the resort. I’m not sure if that’s a problem or not, but it seems as though it is going to kill my boots in about a season and a half.

Yesterday I tried on a pair of the Driver X’s and whoa. Way lighter than my current pair which is I believe currently from thee seasons ago and felt way more compact and less bulky. I almost dropped the coin but held off.

Can anyone add some personal experiences with the most current season of either boots?

I’m on my 3rd pair of Malamutes. 100 days is a pretty good life for a boot I’d say. I have this year’s boot, and 2 season ago’s boot, this years boot has a smaller profile and better lace systems.

Just out if curiosity, why do you like the malamutes so much?

I use them too but didn’t put too much thought into my purchase! All I know is they are stiffer than my first boots (the ones I learned to snowboard with and lasted several years).

I Recently picked up last years driver x. I unfortunately hurt my back and haven’t had a chance to ride with them yet but the are light, comfortable, the lacing system is pretty cool(I was a bit skeptical and again haven’t ridden in them but they seem like they will hold up). They are much stiffer than my old burton hails and also have the optional tongue stiffeners. I don’t know how they compare to the malamutes but I have a feeling I will be happy with them. especially because I got them for 100 bucks off.

Loving my Driver X’s, especially as I got them for a sweet deal (thanks Barrows!).

For me, they are the ideal boot for pow/mid winter splitting before I transition to volcanos and hard boots in April.

Comfy, compact, stiff and light what more could you want?

This year’s driver’s are a lot stiffer than last. I got shin bang when breaking them in–first time ever experiencing that in snowboard boots! After a handful of resort days and one tour, they’re starting to feel good and I think they should be good to go for a winter or two. My 4.02 on the drivers, anyways.

I’m in them for work 5-6 days a week from 9-4 and they hold up well all season. When I want to ride something tough they seem stiff enough, and when I am walking around or skinning they are comfortable.

I haven’t tried the Driver X, I probably should – my boot before the Malamute (3 pairs ago) was a Burton.
