I think the new format blows. It probably has the most wasted screen real estate of all the message boards I visit, and the navigation of the forums is awful. I had a list of gripes but I don’t care enough to type them in here. This is my first visit back in about 3 weeks and I used to check in pretty much daily before the switch.

Ah apathy. I know it well. BUCK UP SOLDIER! Your pragmatic and objective gear reviews are needed. Your karakoram vs. Spark binding review is a internet classic.

I’ve posted a few times about the new forum, whining and complaining. Here’s one more. I don’t visit the site any more except to see if it’s back to the old style. Or to complain. That’s it. I don’t post, I don’t read any posts. I feel lucky to have learned so much in the last few years from so many knowledgeable and helpful splitters here. It was a great resource for me. But the new style has killed my interest in casually roaming the site and seeing what folks are doing.

Just my view. My vote would be to revert, obviously.

I guess when passions run high it is a good sign. if people really didn’t care they wouldn’t post.

new format, old format – sheesh. What’s the big deal here folks. It looks great. so what if the forum box is smaller.

active topics???? never used it. hmmmm, maybe I’m doing it wrong.

Over the last DECADE, this site has proven to be an integral part in splitboard innovation and uniting splitters all over the world and lets us talk and bullshit with one another on an awesome platform.

I don’t do instagram or facebook, so this is where I go to see awesome trip report and learn about new product and see what my internet homies are up to.

how active the forum is depends on US. I’ve seen the waves over and over again, but there is always a new set of members signing up and contributing. Droughts don’t help. 🙁

All the new content outside of the forum is amazing. Well done Chris, Colin and anyone else that has helped make this site what it is.

Keep the forum as is. I respect the people saying they don’t like it and won’t visit the site anymore. But what a lame reason to not visit the site — because you don’t like the look??? or the functionality???

if we all just help snowsavage learn how to post pics then all will be OK in splitboard land. 🙂

I can’t remember what the old forum looked like at this point. It’s fuzzy. Replaced by a steady stream of internet. This is an interesting moment for the electronic bulletin board.

Given the option I prefer the old forum, but am learning to navigate around the new one. I do appreciate all the effort Chris has put into the new site.

I wouldn’t be a splitboarder if I had not found this site. I been here almost ten years and times have changed. facebook, instagram and links to personal blogs have killed the traditional trip report.
And I believe the trip reports were what drove us.
I recently tried to help a guy out on here. He wanted to hire a guide. I tried to expain that you don’t need to hire anyone, that the groove of this site would allow you to ride any mountain range with anyone if you go about it the “hippie” way. A few beers, offers of exchange of tours, ect.
The guy just didn’t understand. I don’t know……..times and people have changed a bit.

But as PJ pointed out, if I would have missed Chris’s site, I would have also missed

    Rogers Pass
    Togwootee Pass
    Shasta
    Baker
    Mt Adams
    The Wasatch
    Mt Albright
    Teton Pass
Jackelope in bumfuck nowhere Wyoming with an Australian

The list goes on and on

    Thanks Chris

    “View New Posts”!!!!!

I haven’t been on much, some of it was the change over, some was that fact I haven’t been splitting and have nothing to contribute. If not for this forum I would have made some crappy DIY boards for sure. I have also made a bunch of Splitbard friends and partners here.

Personally I blame Facebook (for everything). [insert smiley here]

HOT TIP #1 BRO: Type colon, hyphen, right parenthese and the forum automatically turns it into a smiley like this 🙂
Also, For new posts, go to your profile page and view subscriptions. Active threads are listed there.

Change is inevitable, be it online or out among the trees. This isn’t the first time the site & forum has changed and it likely won’t be the last. And to echo TEX, this digital community we have here has been essential for growing the sport, but as it grows and as we ourselves grow & bring new folks into the fold we also diversify and it becomes less essential to maintain those online relationships in order to get after it. 8 years ago I found it difficult to find anyone who even knew what a splitboard was, I was just getting handy with a skill saw, the only factory decks I had laid eyes on were Voile and Prior, Will had just released that first Spark binding and sold it through this forum. Now I’ve got a stack of decks, factory made in pow central BC to the Alps of Europe, some fancy ass hardboot bindings, and enough friends on splits I could probably tour with a new person everyday I get out. It’s a completely different world and I don’t blame Chris one bit for working his ass off to stay relevant in it. Stay in your rut and complain if you’d like, but I’m leaving you behind; there are mountains to climb and pow to slash!

Thanks Chris and everyone else for all the hard work invested in this weird little sport of ours.

    That was Pontus
