I am currently not working and am living the life of a snowboarding dirtbag. This means i am available to get out and tour any day. I know it hasn’t snowed in a week but i am convinced there is some powder hiding in stashes on the north facing slopes. I have a pass to Meadows and ride there when i do not have a touring partner but would rather get out in the . I am in good shape and a consider myself a good snowboarder. Send me a PM or hit me up if you want to go out on a tour.
A few of us are thinking of climbing Cooper Spur on Thurs and descending/riding down the South Side. Conditions should be just shy of bulletproof but whatever, we live in the the PNW.
Any suggestions of start times to maximize on “good” snow?
You guys might want to check out cascadeclimbers.com. There’s a trip report from Friday, with pretty good detail of the conditions up there. Good luck, someone ought to take advantage of this high pressure system. I’d descend late afternoon, to take advantage of as much solar radiation as possible.
hey accmcmurray me and a skier bud were going to climb luethold’s on thurs… lets join forces.
doubt it will soften up at all. be ready to rappel off a snow ballard past the old chute while strapped in to your bindings. or downclimb if you dont wanna be cool.
You can park in the HRM parking lot. There is an area right by the trailhead that you can park. The two times I have been to Newton, I usually crossed the creek and followed the trail along Pea Gravel Ridge, but you might have a better approach with the cat track.
Hey oh! I live in government camp, just got a splitboard, am stoked on winter camping, and need some friends!!!! I’ve been tooling around some spots out here and camping, but I’m still new to the area. I have Sunday night to wed morning off every week and I’m down to go on trips. I’m planning on splitting and camping the next couple days on hood – hit me up if anyone’s down. Splitting rocks! Kerry
i thinks it will great over there… im planning on being on the north side on weds (supposed to be sunny) climbing up cooper spur as high as conditions and confidence allow (not planning on getting above the “chimneys”) and then maybe dropping onto elliot glacier. need me some steeps.
anyone is welcome to come along, there is plenty of terrain from moderate to super exposed.
Seems like weds, Thurs are the days to have off on this site, so I got weds off this week. Your trip sounds fun Chris. I have a couple buddies coming in from the coast and we’re all newish to splitting not boarding, but we’re athletic and fun and stoked. If we can come along that would be awesome, maybe we’ll just have to follow your tracks. What time and where are you starting?
I just got off from Tilly Jane. Snowing pretty good up there. Great, soft turns.
I’ll probably be out there again tomorrow, not early as I’d like as I have to run some much needed errands, but am considering camping at the cabin. One of my tele buddies will be rallying out with me as well.
I would say ideally, I’ll be up there around 10am or noon at the latest.
Anyone interested in a Saturday/Sunday tour? Hood is cool or Tom Dick could be something…
I was thinking about Tilly Jane. As the forecast stands now, tom dick is slated for rain on thurs to fri evening.
Yeah, getting up high is probably good. I just checked the report for SkiBowl and it looks like rain thurs/friday morning, but then turning to snow midday on friday. We can keep an eye on the forecast and go whereever it’s good. Does Saturday work?
