There isn’t any hunting allowed there. November 21, 2013 at 5:35 am #671390 grubbers 150 PostsLooks like I’m moving back to VT in a week, just in time for winter. Now I just need to find a place to live around Waterbury… November 22, 2013 at 2:54 pm #671391 XCsnowboarderVW94 33 PostsKnock on wood it looks like snow is moving in over the weekend. Sunday or Monday could be good. From Jay Peak (I find they usually do a pretty good job with reporting/forcasting): A net gain of 4″+ for the summit by the first lift ride tomorrow, Opening Day!. Snowy weather Saturday morning will turn to mostly cloudy with flurries by afternoon, our wind and temperatures will be moderate, and some sun should break though, a nice ski day. Then all (white) hell breaks lose Saturday Night.Jay Peak will have a private blizzard Sunday. As the wind increases to storm force, the temperature drops to January force. But the snow will keep on flying. We have a double digit ‘Jay Cloud’ snowfall with the Sunday arctic blast. My guess is 15″+ by Monday morning. The wind will decrease rapidly Monday, with a few hours of sunshine before the next system arrives Monday Night. A combo warm front and cold front should bring another 4″ snowfall for Tuesday. And we are just getting warmed up for Thanksgiving.A Major storm is likely to impact most of the eastern United States for Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day. The early call for Jay Peak is ‘Blizzard Possible’, we are not talking private blizzard either, this one may impact the entire length of the Long Trail from Massachusetts to Canada. But these major systems are barley discernible from our local “Jay Cloud’ blizzards. For those who only see the weather from a Jay Jet perspective, the Sunday blizzard and the Thanksgiving Day blizzard may look and feel identical. Next Update Sunday Night Tim November 22, 2013 at 6:20 pm #671392 802smuggler 369 PostsI wonder why Roger Hill doesn’t do the forecast for Jay anymore? Anyways, that’s a pretty ballsy forecast- a lot of forecasters are on the fence concerning the weather madness potentially headed our way. One thing is for sure. Jay has been a monster overperformer this fall. I’m going to ride lifts at Smuggs Sunday morning and pick up the split from No School (it got beat up pretty good last snow dump). But this week is going to be great for earning inbound laps because the base is there and the lifts are closed! :headbang: Happy T-day and shredding.Alex, feel free to hit me up this week, I hope to get several days in. November 23, 2013 at 10:49 pm #671393 highanxiety 47 Postswas at smuggs today riding the lift, It was firm, but good to work the riding legs. Pretty empty for first couple hours, which was nice. Will be up again tomorrow for few runs. Couple new inches just now, hopefully some more on the way. November 23, 2013 at 10:55 pm #671394 802smuggler 369 PostsDid they shut the lifts down at Smuggs at all today? It sounds like wind could be an issue tomorrow. November 23, 2013 at 11:08 pm #671395 highanxiety 47 PostsThe only lift running is Sterling and there were no issues with wind today. Well at least while I was there. Should be gusty tomorrow though and probably going to be pretty cold with the wind chill. Any locales seeing better coverage than others? Coming to visit my brother for the holidays and hoping there’s enough coverage to bring the split as well as a few days at Smuggs. We always do Teardrop, would hope to get out to Bolton, the Hump or other places. December 10, 2013 at 12:30 am #671402 grubbers 150 Posts @tiltedworld wrote:How’s the BC shaping up in Northern VT? For the Stowe/Smuggs vicinity, pay attention to the snow stake. http://www.uvm.edu/skivt-l/?Page=depths.phpI generally start poking around in the BC when it gets to around 40″ or so. December 10, 2013 at 8:11 pm #671404 802smuggler 369 PostsWe’re ultra-low tide right now. Resorts that aren’t manmade conglomerates, i.e. Stow and Killington, need some goods. Maybe this weekend we’ll start laying down some white. November was superior by N.E. standards, but we’re back to typical early December patterns for now (nothing new here). We’re going to need several big dumps and sustained cold before we’re in the b-day bowls or hiking tear drop. I think it’s going to be tough to be in the woods by Christmas. 48″ at the stake by old-timer standards: Maybe you can get by with a little less, but I personally don’t feel comfortable off-piste till we’re damn close to that. Hiking closed resort hills can be good with a lot less, but there are so many more obstacles in the forest. December 11, 2013 at 1:52 am #671405 tiltedworld 406 PostsThanks, I’m sure I’ll get weather updates, but I’ll count on bringing the solid then. Picked up some discount Smuggs tix online regardless. The little bits of snow here and there have been adding up in the mean time.Found some left overs after work today… December 13, 2013 at 11:02 pm #671408 tiltedworld 406 PostsLooking better, keep it coming! I need to make the decision on Sunday whether to bring the split or not, so I’ll be watching this storm closely!
