I’m looking at getting a hard boot(dynafit??) set up next year.
Interested in Barrows boot mods, and Vapor’s titanium plate.
Karakoram and now Spark(Edison) have bindings that are no longer using pucks.
Am I a blind soft booter who has not seen a similar fixed plate option? Can you tell me if someone has one. Would it be beneficial, and if so, why isn’t there one yet?
Got some more questions, but I’ll start with this.
I’m on the case. I assume you guys still want to use the Voile style puck for the binding mount? This leaves you the option to back to Voile plates. I started to make a base but gave up with the design but I think I might re-visit the project. What you we be willing to pay? Same prices as the light rail, Spark around the $300. Boot sizes? I’m using 27.5 What are your sizes, looking for the smallest to largest. Not sure if Dynafit compatibility in ride mode is wanted? Cheers

the price is tricky as my justification for forking over $600 plus on hardboots was the cheap binders. My idea is just a little wider slider plate with a series of holes on each side of the plate. The bails could then be popped in or out of the holes to adjust for size. this would accomplish a light binder that is still cheap to produce. really a hardboot binding would use less than 1/3 of the material in a strap binding so I would have a hard time paying over $100. which for a limited run of bindings could be a hard mark to hit.

I am size 25mondo and my wife is 23 mondo.
Price I would pay is dependent on quality and design. A quality, secure binding is absolutely required for me.

I was going for adjustable plate in two sizes at the begining. That way you can make them fit all diiferent boot makers actual overall boot outer sizes. My 27.5 Scarpa/Garmont/Raichle boots all have different lenghts, only a small adjustment. Ill see what $ they would come out at for around 20 sets

Screw the voile style puck. Something that fix’s to the board(Karakoram/Edison style). All it needs to do is fit the split hole pattern, after that it’s up to your imagination. Then a thin plate that locks on to it. Bails adjustable(??) and integrated in to the plate. Boot sitting as close as possible, if not on the plate.
If I get an AT boot I don’t want the bottom of it to be 1.5 inches off my board, it’s sole is high enough already. I want to be close to my board, I don’t like being high off it.
I would like to keep using my Dynafit toe pieces in tour mode–and am currently considering direct mounting Plum Guide toe and heel pieces. I would be quite willing to pay for a solid binding that lowered my boot (27.5) position on the board by 0.5 inches or so. I really like the feel (i..e lateral flex) of my Bomber Sidewinders—but I do wish that I could could drop the boot height.
Triad plates will be much better/lighter than the voile plates. I have started up a project with OCD. His will include highbacks and bring mountaineering boot riding as an option for those who are interested in going that route.

Wow, don’t know how i missed this thread. The binding I made last year works perfect but isn’t cost effective to produce. I’ve pretty much rested up from this falls board building episode so i’ll put some thought into it and see what i can come up with. Right now i’ve got some ideas but they would be custom. and would have to develop bending dies for the bales as well as do some destructive testing before selling to anybody.
