Forums The Gear Room Needed: Poles that are >145cm long. Viewing 6 posts - 1 through 6 (of 6 total)Author Posts October 16, 2015 at 8:00 pm #784453 cadmus 14 PostsI am lanky, i like long poles. I had a set of Leki “snowshoe” poles from the mid 90’s that just bit the dust. I used them almost exclusively for 12 years (when they were not broken). They were the only pole of 160cm i could find. They did not pack down as well as i would like, but great baskets and long. When skinning up i am almost always using the 160 length, and sometimes i wish i could go up to 170+. Every year i look for a replacement. Now i need a replacement. I found a few snowshoe poles but they do not collapse down much. Can anyone direct me to collapsible poles that get longer than 155cm. 170 would be ideal.I am also looking for franken-pole options. If someone knows a various 2 segment and 3 segment pole that has interchangeable parts to get me to my desired ~160 cm I am all ears. especially if i can pack it down a little relative to the 2 segment snowshoe poles. Thanks in advance, October 17, 2015 at 1:15 am #784461 HansGLudwig 601 PostsBlack Diamond makes Expedition 2’s in 155 cm size. http://blackdiamondequipment.com/en/ski-poles/expedition-2-BD111556_cfg.html#start=9 For longer poles (~170 cm). . . The lower from my older, 2-piece Whippets fits into the mid shaft on my new, BD 3-piece Expeditions and extends out to about 175 cm. You can probably buy 3-piece Expeditions and replacement lowers from the 2-piece Expeds (they both are 14 mm in diameter) and have a similar effect; i.e. replace the 3-piece lowers with longer, 2-piece lowers. I don’t happen know the length of this year’s 2-piece lowers, but I imagine it is about as long as previous year’s 2-pieces have been. Here’s a link to BD’s spare parts page. . . http://blackdiamondequipment.com/en/skiing/spare-parts Here’s a link to replacement Exped 2 lower shaft (the larger, 155 cm size). . . http://blackdiamondequipment.com/en/skiing%2Fspare-parts-BD0114550000155S.html#start=66It is probably worth an email or call to customer service to confirm diameters. http://blackdiamondequipment.com/en/customer-service/cs-landing.htmlThis setup will not collapse down into a respectable size. It will look like alien radio antennae when you shred, unless you remove the lowers and pack them along side your uppers + mids.Another angle might be looking into collapsable nordic poles (if they exist) and replacing the baskets with powder baskets.Be sure to bookmark Splitboard.com's Recent Activity page... http://splitboard.com/activity-2/ October 17, 2015 at 3:09 am #784466 permnation 303 PostsThese could work http://luxurylite.com/ssindex.html I emailed Bruce last season about one, and he seemed receptive to custom cut lengths. He has an aluminum version also. Were these replaced by the “Compactor” series? Perhaps the compactor bottom will fit in a longer upper.Still reading up on Permnation’s links. BD does offer a 3 piece: Expedition 3; I just didn’t mention it b/c the larger of the two sizes doesn’t fit your needs.Compactor is a different deal/design altogether and can’t interface. They have this “Z-technology” where all the shafts have male and female (convex and concave) cones on the ends. They are connected by a cable on the inside which, when tensioned, pulls them together (male into female) and makes the shaft rigid. (Wow, that got real naughty, real quick!)I happen to like permnation’s custom pole link.Be sure to bookmark Splitboard.com's Recent Activity page... http://splitboard.com/activity-2/ Viewing 6 posts - 1 through 6 (of 6 total)longpoletallYou must be logged in to reply to this topic.
