JD & I Met up with Telefred and his brother at PP on Sat morning

Hiked out from Guthega (Part of Perisher Blue Resort NSW Australia) – across the creek near the Flying Fox, across the plains, over the suspension bridge (in snow shoes) (near Illawong Hut??)

then up over a couple of spurs to Twynam Creek Camp Spot (approx 2.5hrs for us unfit ones)

We dug in and set up camp while Telefred and his brother started on our camp kitchen

After a small lunch the TF & Bro went for a hike to the crags on the other side of twynam while JD waited for me to slog up to Tywnam – i was pretty shagged from the hike out – shallow breathing and blisters etc

saw some skiers put some turns in on Twynam and we soldiered on to the top

unfortunately once we go to the top the weather had set in and we ventured down from the top of Twynam in Pea Soup (a little sketchy)

hike up the ridge opp Twynam and the back to camp

Decide to build a 1/2 igloo for our packs and have a cuppa (while it started to hail little sago balls)

thought i had a bit of energy left so we hiked the small face opp our campsite where we met TF & Bro on their way back from a Pea Soup Hike

a little more wall construction around the Kitchen, cooked dinner had some Jelly and off to bed

Sunday Morning was a bit foggy to start, but then cleared to a blue bird day

TF & Bro headed to the Crags again and did 2 runs down which JD got the second on vid

we headed down twynam in nice vis so we could see what we were doing, up little twynam ridge and back to camp where we packed up the tents and started the hump out

riding with a heavy pack adds a new dimension/degree to riding difficulty

across the bridge and the snow on the other side was diabolical slush (i was post holing in snow shoes)

    about 2hrs back to guthega

i must say the TF & his brothers a freaking fit and shite hot tele skiers

Sweet man! We definitely do not get enough down under stoke around here. It’s good to see and really helps make me forget about the summer heat…

Wow,snow pics :thatrocks: I heard you guys were having an epic winter down there. Whats the elevation on the terrain?
How many Backcountry Skiers/boarders down under? I mean is it popular ?
When does your season start and end typically?

Great stuff Caboose!! So great to see snow. Been up in the mtns clearing a trail in a favorite area which was pretty much a bushwhack & a good friend just sent me pics from Chile where she was las week so this helps complete the stoke I’m feeling now.

    Thanks again!!

not really epic base snow in resort had made about 1.5m (about 5ft), but cover has been good until recently with all mountains open etc better than last year

outback we might have wind drifts, lee slopes up to 3m deep (9ft) or so

Mt Twynam is 2195m (approx 7200ft)

our highest peak in AUst is Mt Kosiuszko (2228ft) not really a peak just a rolling hill

    How many BC Skiers etc

hard to tell that weekend there would have been about 20 people around during the day near Twynam

    it felt busy

Resorts open June to October, BC can go longer if it stays cold, our problem is lack of decent snow falls and temperature rising quickly once it hits our spring
