Been hanging mostly with skiers lately. I apologize for the lack of snowboarders in these photos. But this one was my first big day of the season, so I thought I’d share it over here……

We got some beta that Middle Palisade was filled in about a week ago. There had been a little wind since then, but we decided to head out there to check it out.

This thing doesn’t hold much snow for very long. The gully isn’t very deep, and it gets stripped by the wind incredibly quickly. So while it has always been high on my list of things to do, the timing of it is very difficult.

The other problem is that you can’t get a view of the coverage until you are just below it. So we left the car at 5:30 with no idea what we would find.

    First view of our destination:

    More skiing:

The wind began to kick up from the north:

Getting pelted in the face with uphill spindrift isn’t pleasant:

But we still managed to have fun:

That looks like quite a burly line. High stoke factor. Beautiful photos. :thatrocks:

Splitboarding is the answer unless Splitbooting is the answer, either way we're going snowboarding because America!

well done bcd. Way to take advantage of a timing window to nab a beautiful line on a classic peak. Ahh, The Palisades…
    Great photos as usual.

stellar as always bcd!!! it was windy enough that night that there was no evidence of your tracks the next day looking down from the thumb.

Nope. It’s been done a handful of times in the past. Not too many, though, since there’s a ton of luck involved in finding it covered.

No views of the U or V yet this year. I imagine they are filled in, but I’m not positive. A lot of the snow that fell in the middle of the season was light and dry, which doesn’t stick to the ice very well. So it’s hard to say.

i hear that South lake is undergoing repairs to the dam. Does anyone know if you can still walk on the road, or it’s closed to pedestrians as well?
