Thanks, Snovols. I was thinking a little higher up. Flew over it recently and it looked from the air like there might be some ride-able shots, but maybe not.

the higher peaks get wind raped all winter and usually complete rock gardens until spring, or at least that is what i’ve heard. I don’t think we’ve had enough snow this year to make the la sals an option yet.

Yeah, all the southwestern sky islands do. That’s the case here in Flag. Right below treeline is often the place to be. Sounds like Moab’s getting pummeled with snow right now, so maybe things are improving.
i’ve not been up this year yet (gotta re-glue my skins) but folks have been getting up to the north woods/pre-laurel circuit and getting some goods. not too bony from what i hear but the usual squirrelly la sal early-season conditions exist, i’m sure. we got another 6″ or so down here in the valley last night so things oughta be better. plus, like everywhere else, it’s been cold as balls down here so hopefully that will make for a better-than-usual snowpack this year. the funnel already ripped so hopefully the new snow is adhering well and will be a good safe run soon.
from what i hear the geyser pass road has been a complete and utter shitshow with cars stuck blocking the road, dudes loading up wood in the middle of the road, etc. i bet they get the road and parking lot plowed soon though because they start training volunteers for the nordic track this week.
