when changing from the voile split hooks to the karakoram clips, do the k-clips work with the same 3/16 screws and the locknuts supplied? Is the threading on that hole for the k-clips the same as the threading on voile’s screws? and do the screw lengths work with the k-clips? or do you need karakoram’s specific hardware package of screws/nuts?
You will reuse the Voile screws when you install the K-clips. They are the same diameter and thread pitch. The Kclips do not ship with screws which is cheap and lame since the Voile ones tend to be significantly longer than they need to be to mount the Kclips. Charging $50 for some bits of bent metal you’d think they could drop some correct length screws in the bag.
thanks for the quick response. Karakoram confirmed the same thing, with a quick response of their own; same threading, shorter lengths to “improve fit and finish”.
It is strange that a $50msrp set of clips doesn’t come with the screws and nuts. And when Voile’s hooks are $24 with the screws. Kudos to Voile again, when I ordered replacement hardware (screws/t-nuts) from them so my buddy could change his DIY to a better board, they added those to the pack for free simply because they aren’t listed as a spare part item on the website.
I’m with you on the K-Clips not coming with hardware. I bought three sets and had to modify almost every screw. Then I dropped one in the vent and decided to try and buy a whole spare set, but there was no part number for the hardware used on Prior boards (flat button type screw instead of tapered) so I chased hardware around. You know what? Add $5 more to the price and include the hardware.
Oh and another lesson learned, I found out that with the board thickness not being consistent throughout that you can’t cut the screws for the tip and think they’ll fit in the tail clips. So with this in mind the K-Clips would have to come with a long screw and the two that need to fit in the threaded part of the clip have to be trimmed to fit. Maybe that’s why they aren’t included, they don’t know which size to include…
they sell the screw/nuts as a separate pack, and (I think) they only sell 1 size. So what size to include probably isn’t their issue, although it might be our issue depending on our boards’ specs
well, even without screws/nuts and being a bit pricey, I got them in the post and put them on my DIY and they are friggin tight. Good tight, so I’m stoked.
