My last post was “It’s coming”, well, IT’S ON now boys and girls! And I’ve got some photos here for you all to prove it. No more of that summer and fall crap (although there a lot of nice posts with sweet pic’s of that stuff), but this is Splitboard.com. So…
Snowsavage called me up yesterday to get some information on mtn biking around this area. Well, I had other ideas because it’s a little late for that around here. Just a little. I suggested snowboarding instead. I believe he might have thought somethings a little wrong with me, but he was in. So he drove down to Girdwood where we made our first acquaintance and took off into the mountains. There we started hiking at the early hour of 2:00pm.
it was pretty nice out
and the snow was OK too
OK enough to go for round two, or three
oh, did I say OK? sorry about that, I meant Balls Deep!!
…and steep
that’s steep and deep (mmmmmm)
then we had to go home
So that was Snowsavage and my day yesterday, not bad for early October turns. Thanks for the call and it was nice to meet you. If anyone else makes it up this way, give me a shout. ‘Cause It’s On!
Nice work JVL, what a nice way to break into the 08/09 season!!! You better keep getting out and posting more trip reports for all of us back here in the lower 48. We are supposed to get snow round these parts this weekend, but we have still a long ways to go!! Keep it up and keep me posted on Japan!!
Awesome pics and snow …. but I have to ask, what aren’t you guys skinning here? I know Storn’s a huge fan of http://www.splitboot.com, but I wasn’t sure the trend had made it up to Ak yet.
I knew someone would catch on that the photos were of hiking and not splitting. So I’ll have to fix that I guess.
The trail was a little rocky down low, but with a rock board you could skin and ride to and from your car door in the trailhead parking lot. I just don’t have a rock splitboard as of yet. Anyone out there have one they’d like to send me? I’ll put it to good use
Nice dude! Ive been up in hatchers a few times but it didnt look nearly that good, that was as of last weekend though. Drove down from hurricane gulch today and we got 2+ feet overnight through this afternoon. One of the scarier drives I’ve experienced with deep wet slushy trenches and icy bumps. cars spining out in front of me into the ditch and myself fishtailing unpleasantly more than a few times. fun times. Too bad the freezing levels have shot up so much now. I think april bowl is still above the freezing line at the moment though, thinking of checking it out tomorrow if the weather looks decent. Or would highland/alpenglow maybe be a better bet? If anyones interested in getting out anytime this weekend drop me a line.
