aw darn my free photobucket account is almost full. so i figured i would check with my TR posting brethren to get some feedback. should i bother with upgrading to the paid service? i mean i guess i have been happy with the free account over the years. just seems too easy to start using picasa or flickr or whatever other services are out there.

photobucket is old school my man. i’m a big flickr fan these days although i have had and still use photobucket, picasa, and mobileme. flickr is the easiest service to use in my opinion and makes it easy to share photos in several formats.

I would recommend using the free flickr and when the day comes for you to upgrade i feel that the flickr pro service is worth the money.

I use facebook cause it’s unlimited and free! I did the flikr thing and size limitations for the free account weren’t even large enough for my first TR attempt.

You don’t know how to use Flickr very well then cuz with the free service you can post pics larger than 1000 x 800. That’s larger than is recommended to post on this forum.

I’d take a hard look at Picasa or Flickr as well. I’ve been using Photobucket for years, and it does the job, but… I think the default usage of the others has improved a bit more over the years… Photobucket just seems to be a little slower to get the same things done…

So unless I don’t have my settings correct the only thing I don’t like about Flickr is that it seems you have to set your privacy settings to let everyone see your photos to post them on a forum. Is that correct?

well I didn’t use flickr, but I’ve used photobucket. you may use picasa instead of upgrading inphotobucket. Facebook is also a good idea if you feel this good.

Well maybe I’m the only one, but I still use photobucket, and I got the paid account. On the one hand I’m a software engineer so geeking out and using FTP doesn’t bother me… on the other hand I also like simplicity of workflow. Anyway for me it works. Couple things I like:

    – Direct FTP upload access. I can use the same FTP client I’ve been using for years. I do all my sizing/res conversion locally and what I upload is what is used, no conversion going on behind the scenes.

    – The URL links to the pics aren’t some random gibberish, they’re actually a path that makes sense based off your user account, the name of the photo album, and the name of the photo file.

    – I don’t have to log into Crackbook. 🙂

I don’t really use any of the other features (like slide shows etc) so I can only comment on the pic hosting.

When I used flickr, it wasn’t the photo size that was limiting. I had too many pics and the combined weekly allowable upload size was too small. That was last year though and max allowable file size upload limit may be bigger now. The other reason for using “crackbook” is that I can share my trips and pics with family who isn’t interested in browsing through a splitboard forum to check them out. Kills 2 birds with one stone.

I think these days pretty much all the img hosting sites allow easy sharing with facebook. That way when you have to get a new fb account because of that internet stalker who keeps pestering you to visit his bondage dungeon, you don’t lose all your pics. 🙂
