I think if I go for four I will be homeless 😥 October 11, 2006 at 8:32 pm #591043 Shep 525 PostsWell, so far the interest level hasn’t been what I would call “great”, but I’ve also talked to a couple of people off-line about this. I’m becoming convinced that the right company to talk to about a demo/rental opportunity is BURTON, and there are a couple of reasons why. First is that they are here in New England. If we did a BC fest at Jay, it would be way cheaper for them to show up than Voile or Prior. I don’t think Winterstick is large enough to be able to support an event in a meaningful way. Another point in Burton’s favor is that they may have enough boards to do this… Anyone been to a demo stop where they had splitboards? I know they keep some boards on-hand for their employees to try out… Probably only one split though. Anyway, I’m hoping we could maybe even tie this in with an event they might hold anyway.Anyway, the critical question is, doe anyone have any contacts at Burton to see if they are remotely interested in this? If so, drop me a PM. I’m definitely going to keep this low-key, and not harrass anybody. Thanks, Shep October 12, 2006 at 1:39 pm #591044 affix snow 521 PostsIF we are gonna try and make this an “EVENT” with sponsers and stuff, we should contact Backcountry Mag, as they are also in VT…..(in all honesty we should have started this last season to put it together for this one…But im all for tryin’!) This would be the same weekend as their Rando race… Anyone know if there’s a splitboard class? 😈How do people feel about Jay Peak area on the 10th and 11th? October 16, 2006 at 6:03 pm #591047 Flanz 12 PostsI’m for Jay!I don’t care what weekend it is. October 16, 2006 at 6:08 pm #591048 affix snow 521 PostsSounds good….. October 16, 2006 at 9:33 pm #591049 dave 100 Postsno doubt. i’m IN!not to sure that burton would be interested, but it’s worth a shot. doing it close by in VT would definately increase the chances of them showing up with some demo’s and such. if that happened, cool.has anyone been out to the real splitfest? i have experienced a “scrubfest” in WY and that was very low key grassroots type of thing with donations from the sponsors (splitboard.com, voile, MSU bc riding club) that helped make it a successful event. that was pretty much it and it kicked ass. wysplit made it all happen. 😀 we filled out some waivers, hung out and went splitting and made history. tyring to put any more logisitcs into the “event” is just asking for trouble IMHO; especially being the first year. i may be able to contact someone about this at burton, but it’s kind of a long shot (just the team mgr, nobody that deals w/ events or marketing). i’ll just let them know that this is going on some time this winter. maybe they’d show up some afternoon and then hang out for the night (screen thier film; “For right or Wrong”?) and then demo thier boards the next day. well, there’s my 2cents for now.how is the splitting up near Jay? anything besides tree’s? can you split up mansfield outside the boundaries and get above treeline? i’m downedit: fine print: i voted for B, but by “everyone” i assume this implies experienced backcountry user with ALL necessary gear. October 16, 2006 at 10:14 pm #591050 Shep 525 PostsCareful dave, you might accidently volunteer to help out. 😉Seriously though. ikkin and I have already been in contact with some people in the industry, and we really want to get some representation by the manufacturers. I think the advantage of doing it at Jay the weekend of the Rando race would be that we already know there will be people there who are thinking “Backcountry” and we’ll be able to attach the word snowboarding to that. At this point, we’re still trying to reach out to as many groups as possbile… I think we can definitely make this happen in a significant way, but we have a lot of people to convince. What would be really helpful is if people want to step up and volunteer to lead a tour or teach a clinic or something like that. We can’t be too specific, until we have a set venue, but if you want to help out without too much work ahead of time, that would be an awesome way.PM me for my e-maill address if you are interested. Thanks, Shep October 17, 2006 at 12:57 am #591051 dave 100 Posts😯 October 17, 2006 at 1:35 am #591052 T 46 PostsSounds like a great idea to me. Count me in!(And everyone should be invited. And you left coast people should come out and see how the other half lives.) October 17, 2006 at 2:16 am #591053 Shep 525 Postsre: dave’s subject…I should say that, right now, this is all my interpretation of what will happen, and other people like ikkin are working on this too, so it could end up very different from this…Jay Peak is a resort with lots of backcountry in the general vicinity. By having it at Jay, we can still do tours out-of-bounds, but we have an easier time convincing companies like Burton and Voile to show up, because they will have both committed splitboarders AND people who’ve never heard of it before checking out there wares. Also, maybe we COULD get Jay to create a splitboard class in their rando race…All that said, Jay is ABSOLUTELY NOT a given. There are lots of other possibilities, and Jay may end up not being okay with it. We’ll see how things work out as time progresses. 🙂 October 17, 2006 at 5:24 am #591054 lifelinksplit 282 PostsYou can count on dave.
