Hey everybody, I am new to this site and wanted to say hello. I live in Vancouver Washington. I am a Snowboard Instructor at Mt. hood Meadows. While I have not gotten ahold of a splitboard, I do a lot of backcountry snowboarding in the Oregon and Washington Cascades. I am still in the snowshoe and carry my board phase.
Along with snowboarding, my main hobbies include flying, white water rafting and backpacking. Yesterday, I took some friends up in the Cessna 182 for an aerial tour of the Cascade volcanoes. Here is a slideshow of our trip. the air was unusually calm and I was able to get up close and personal with our giants of the PNW.
Welcome to the site. Although I kinda wish you had a helicopter instead of a plane. But still, that seems like a great way to check out the mountains. Thanks for the slide show. Get a splitboard – you’ll be glad you did!
wow, great photos. have you been into the bc around the oakridge/ diamond peak/willamette area? I was there a few weeks ago and the BC looked great. its real easy to say that when you’ve only seen the place in the summer time. ryon
I am not familiar with that area. Where abouts is it? So far, my backcountry travel has been on San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff, Az and on the upper reaches of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams. I was going to do Mt. St. Helens this year, but life got in the way and by the time I had some free time, the best snow was already gone.
Shit I love those volcanoes, great pics….and welcome to the site! I highly suggest a splitboard purchase to you if you’re doing the snowshoe gig and enjoying the bc, splitboards make it an even more enjoyable experience.
It’s pretty fortunate you had such good weather and got to get so close…. Amazing. I wish I could have went with you, but I didn’t want to leave Shannon and Christina hanging.
