I see that splitboardlife.com is now up. Cool… but seriously, there is no way to get the domain back from the dude who is squatting on it? How about if every one of us sends him a little email explaining how totally lame he is being? It looks like the guy just wants to start his own splitboard site…
One of the main bummers to me is that links to old TR’s will break (still work once edited I assume). That includes any saved links, or any cross-links from TR’s here or elsewhere.
Plus, you’re gonna have to redesign the banner, and we’re all going to have to get new stickers and t-shirts, lest we give this douchebag free advertising! :banghead:
What he’s doing is cybersquatting – people try to make a living off this simply by tracking traffic to websites and lie in wait to purchase domain names of high traffic sites that lapse.
This guy seems to be trying to make it look like he’s not squatting by making it appear that he’s starting a legit site. When you go to splitboard.com or splitboarder.com, there is a splitting-related graphic that makes it appear legit. I assume that is to get around the ACPA that Steve mentioned.
Looks like splitboarder.com was created back at the end of Jan (which could also serve to make it seem legit), but then he registered for splitboard.com on 3/7, presumably right when it expired.
Chris, glad to see you have a home for it for now and best of luck getting the OG domain back. It would be kind of weak if someone tried to swoop the url and create something based on the same model…
Is there a reason that no one here has posted this guys name and contact info? it’s on the facebook page. Seems like the more people who tell this guy how much he is blowing it the better.
Cool, I hope it works out. If the guy really does want to start his own splitboard site, you would think he’d realize that pissing off the entire splitboard community probably isn’t the best way to get started… 🙄
The new site is working of course, but it would Really Suck ™ if we can’t get the old domain back (links in existing posts break, graphics need to be redesigned, facebook account needs to change, we need to burn our t-shirts and stickers lest we give this guy free advertising, etc etc etc.)

I agree – you think he’d at least figure that one out. Pretty common sense. Sometimes I think it should just be called sense, because it’s not necessarily common. I’m all for working something out, but if it turns out he’s trying to profit hard off the work of someone else, I hope he goes down
BCR I am glad to hear that it looks like it’ll work out. Good for Teddy too. A lot of splitters on this board are from Colorado. Not too mention the TGR crowd. A good selection of them live in Summit County. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this guy around, but then again, haven’t been on the look out for him either. Even with the vast amount of bc around here, the popular spots are popular for good reason. You can see where this is going.
Anyway, I’d rather see this guy work something out with you and put out his own site. Splitboarder.com is a good name and if he brings something to the sport I am all for it. Not at the expense of the original and best splitboard site out there though.
