Needing advice on mounts for Smith Variant helmet.
Also wondering will mounting the go pro on the helmet produce any worthwhile footage?

No, it won’t, save your money.

If you are desperate for footage, just mount it on a pole. That way you have self footage or can face it outward and see the line.

Come to Whistler for a day. You will burn your GoPro to ensure you don’t get grouped in with “them”. Having said that, they are kind of cool on the backcountry on the right day.

My GoPro was fun for a season, and then it kinda wore off…

But, that said, they can make some really cool videos if you’re good at that stuff -I wasn’t…

I have always thought the helmet view point to be the most boring of all. An invisible viewer goes through the snow with the occasional view of the tip of the board… This, combined with the distortion that makes the terrain much flatter than it really is makes of a video that looks like somebody running on flat snow….
Pole view points are much cooler, but holding the pole at the right position can be very distracting, especially while you are getting used to it.

Yeah, I think the consensus is don;t bother. I’ve been using mine on a multi-copter to get footage. One of the main reasons I wanted to take it was to get familiar with terrain. I’ll have a GPS tracking tracks but video is also good.

    Thanks for everyones input

I have never liked watching point of view footage so have never considered filming any myself.
