Hey gang. I have been digging on all of the sweet trip reports lately. You all have been keeping me sane. I have been super busy this spring trying to finish up my cabin with subfloor, plumbing, and hardwood floors, hence no riding for me but that is about to change!
A crew of us are heading to Wyoming’s highest summit and one of the most challenging highpoints in the lower 48, Gannett Peak, this next week. Backcountry.com was super kind to sponsor the trip and got the kind gear into our packs! Thank you! I will be posting on backcountry.com’s blog for this trip. For more go to: http://backcountryblog.blogspot.com/ “Gearing Up for the Top of Wyoming”
Be sure to check this blog and look for what I hope to be a successful and stellar trip report on our arrival! Wish there was another splitter going to add to the sweet vibe.
Right on Wyosplit! Your stoked. 14 mile approach, holy shit. I hope you’ve been getting in some trail runs and bike rides in between being a teacher, husband, father, and carpenter. Let us sb.comers know if there’s anything we can do to help!
Thanks guys! I have been riding the mountain bike a ton and working hard at the ranch at 8400 feet. I have just been missing that feeling when making turns down a mountain. A weeks worth of quality will correct that problem in no time. The mountains are waiting!
Do you already have a specific face/route picked out that you guys expect to hit? I had been planning a Gannett climb this summer, but it looks like it’s going to fall through due to work schedule… /:(
Shep-We are thinking about one group skiing Dinwoody/Gooseneck route and one group riding the North Face. It will all depend on avalanche conditions and weather at this point, but that is the plan.
wysplit, good luck with it. I was looking at skiing gannet about a month ago but my weather/work window faded. What route are you going in from, I think its upwards of 20 miles through titcomb and the glacier route I think is 24 miles. I hope he trip goes well, lighten that pack up as much as possible.

BRG-Thanks, we are headed through the Wind River Indian Reservation, and paying an Indian guide to take us to the Cold Springs trailhead near Crowheart. It is only 14 miles to Gannett from this trailhead, but you pay to play. It would be like paying three to four days worth of lift tickets and takes a whole lotta mileage off. No need to spend four days of walking and three of riding.
So you’re not going to post a version of the TR here or other places you post like TGR? Trading gear for exclusive rights to your TRs…I should have thought of that! š
Stoked for you regardless of the politics. Enjoy, be safe, and show the silly skiers what splitters are made of. 8)

I am definitely going to post trip reports here and elsewhere without a doubt. If they want photos I will not be able to post those, but the rest is up for the boards.
Gonna be a hell of a trip – especially with the latest storm that went through. Not sure how it went down in the Winds but up here it was the most consolidated well-bonded snow which would cover up the scab-makers & set-up your opportunities to near perfect – hopefully.
It’s only necessary if you don’t want to get arrested for trespassing. š Seriously though, the elkhart park trailhead is the closest trailhead for self-shuttle. Approaching from the east side, which WSR plans to do, is much shorter, but requires a member of the tribe to drive you across the reservation to the trailhead.
