Forum Issues

@Maynardo, I wonder if people are posting in their respective state forums. That’s where I always post. Utah Current Conditions. Although my season is over so I’m just a lurker for the next bit.

I like to embrace the new but it really looks like the forum has suffered due to the change. I’d hate to see this place die. I feel this is a better place to have discussions than Facebook.

@cbalke is there a possibility to convert it back to BB3 out whatever it was called? There is literally no chatter in the main forum despite backcountry snowboarding being more popular than ever.

Hey @whitepine , there was some talk of switching to the latest version of phpbb but we haven’t gotten the ball rolling so to speak. ultimately that will be up to @bcrider .

@weezy what email did you use when you tried to create a new account? When new accounts are created the site sends out emails but they seem to get lost in people’s spam folders. If the user name or email already is associated with an account then I send out an email to clarify. Unfortunately, the response rate for those is still less than 50%.

That’s the issue I had for a long time. I tried a dozen times to create a new account (with a brand new email) and never got email responses from this site. I can only imagine how many people have tried to create an account only to get frustrated and quit trying. It’s my guess that is a large part of the reason for the lack of traffic here.

That, and everyone one uses instagram even though it’s way more a pain in the ass to post pictures and video on instagram than an internet forum. People also don’t have the attention span to read or write a trip report. I think one picture trip reports and/or 10 second videos are more annoying than entertaining, but I’m also a curmudgeon.

@Maynardo , I’ll admit we are not the quickest (typically not same day) for getting new accounts activated. We still do it by hand so we can sift through all the BS (Spam) accounts. The site only sends you an email when we enter and activate your account. Your’s was not created BGnight because we recognized your name and asked if you needed your BGnight password reset. We never received a response. I even sent you a FB message. Let me know if you want to get your old account squared away.

Since the change over we’ve activated approx 1,000 new accounts. the problem is either people miss the emails (spam folder) or they just use the site for old information or to sell something. If the old members aren’t posting why would the new ones? I have to say there’s a great sidecut/reverse sidecut discussion going on right now.

I think the new forum format keeps some from posting and the rest are too busy on FB and IG to spend any length of time writing a trip report. Maybe some think that their TR’s won’t compare to some of the epics which people post.

You can’t tell me the number of posts in March of this year is even 20% the number of March posts 4 years ago because I’d bet any amount of money on it that it’s not.

Curious, is there a preview post option when writing a post?

Currently there is not a preview post option when writing a post. It’s possible that there is a plugin that would allow for that though.

Anybody else having issues with scrolling in Chrome? Had it for a while now, when I scroll down about a half a page I get Chrome’s ‘Aw Snap!’ error. Can’t use the forum with Chrome. No issues with Firefox.

After much research, experimentation and consideration, I have decided adulthood is not for me. Thank you for the opportunity.
