    UPDATE DATE: 1/24/2007

    STATE: California

    REGION: Pacific Southwest

    RANGER DISTRICT: White Mountain

    NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Mammoth Lakes

    RESERVATIONS: No

    DIRECTIONS:
From Mammoth Lakes, CA, take State Rt. 203 east 0.9 miles to US
Rt. 395. Bear right onto Rt. 395 (south) to Bishop and go 15.2
miles to Tom’s Place sign. Turn right after sign onto Rock Creek
Rd and go 0.7 miles to campground on left.

    GENERAL COMMENTS:
    The elevation is 7,300 ft.

This is a holiday weekend, overflow, and winter recreation
campground with the feel and appearance of a developed, dispersed
area. It is a series of loops meandering through a stand of
Pinyon pine. Fire has burned trees up to the campground’s main
road and red dye slurry has stained rocks, but the campground
itself is untouched by fire. Widely spaced camp sites provide
good privacy. The campground is best suited for tent campers.

This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
“Possessing/storing food so bears/wild animals have access will
result in a fine of at least $150.”
