Just wondering what “plastic” type thing I’ve seen people using to put between their skins to make it easier to pull them apart? I have newer voile skins. Thanks.

“cheat sheets” or “skin savers” or something. I think BD makes a product like this.

I got a set from G3 I think, but Black Diamond makes them too. Mine were called “skin savers” and are designed to keep them for long term storage. I have contemplated using them all the time, but that is one more piece of stuff to keep track of. When you are skinning you have to stow them in your pack or jacket above your powder skirt. When you are riding they can be on the skins. Mine are square mesh plastic so the adhesive can only contact in between the grid lines, so there is less surface area of glue to glue.

After using my skins a handful of times they are still sticky, but more easily separated. I use my arms to get them a bit apart then hold them tight in my hands, place each hand outside the knee on the same side with my knees together, then spread my knees and they come apart nicely.

I’ve got a pair of G3 “Skin Savers”, and I don’t like them. They’re made of red mesh, but when I put them on my skins and try to peel them off, little flecks of red plastic stay stuck on the skins. Now my skins are covered in tons of little red bits of plastic. “Skin Wreckers” might be a more apt name

    🙄

I’d give the Black Diamond ones a go…

In the meantime, anyone else had this problem? Any tips for getting the gung off?

    Cheers

jaydubmah, I have not acually used my G3 skin wreckers yet. I’m glad that I read your reply. I may not use them at all, I don’t want frags of crap in my skin glue. My used burton came with some skins (I like their design better than the voile) but these have a lot of small bits of dirt and pine needles and such. These skins also absorb too much water and left me all glopped (and of course I had no skin wax or glop stopper). I have to retreat them to keep the water out and may start using them on my voile mojo if the fit.

I’ll just keep sticking them to themselves and spreading my legs to keep BSOE happy. Rest assured, if I know I’m skinning first I will put the skins on before loading the car so that my morning does not start with the task at the trailhead.

    best thing is this: Skinny

when I hold it in my hands first time I thought: what a senseless thing …
but after using it a few times I love it! the most practicable thing for storage and easy handling with skins!

I use the black mesh sheets that come with the Ascension ski skins. I use them all the time. They do take a little getting use to. But they make life a whole lot easier and skin glue lasts a lot longer. I do have little black pieces on my skins but they don’t seem to hurt their performance.

Dude – what a great idea! I’m gonna try that. I usually use the ‘Powderjunkie’ method. I unstick the first few inches, clip the skin to the nose of the ski, put the tail on my boot or something supportive and then pull down on the tail end of the skin to simultaneously unstick the skin and place it on the board.

Putting the poo in swimming pool since 1968.
