    Figured I’d ask some locals…

My friend and I are doing a touring hut trip with VHC in feb and I’m planning to bring my jetboil stove for water while we’re touring…but I can’t fly with the fuel canister.

Is there a place in Valdez to buy the 100g jetboil cans? And are they open on sundays? (thats the only day we’ll be in town before we get trucked out to the hut)

Also, what kind of temps should I expect to see? Curious for the temp range of wax I should lay on the splitty. Colder or warmer then -7c?

I’m no local but I remember there being a really big, awesome hardware store right next to our hotel and the pipeline pizza place. Don’t remember if they are open on sundays though. Maybe ask a guide to pick some up for you. BTW I took a jetboil with a canister with me on a recent trip. It was in my checked luggage.

As far as wax, I always go cold, just because it’s harder and lasts longer. (But I don’t wax to often) YMMV

Have fun! Super jealous, they are getting dumped on.

    Thanks for the reply!

Maybe I’ll chuck one can in the board bag and just shrug if they call me into the homeland security office

I checked on the jetboil site and it does show one vendor in valdez, I’m mostly curious if they’re still there/stock 100g cans/and are open sundays…

Been checking weather though and it looks promising. But still plenty of time for it to get better or worse! I just hope we hit a couple good days over the two week period we’re there. weathers always a gamble…

Call up Prospector Outfitters 800.495.7372, they carry jetboil and open on sundays…

If you’re flying into Anchorage and driving (that’s how we did it), there’s an REI there.

    Prospector outfitters – check.

We’re flying into valdez from anchorage, no rental cars for us this time 🙂

prospector will have ’em, and if you call ahead and probably with a cc number or by good faith, they’ll leave it outside for you somewhere.

I lived in the ‘dez for a few years, they’re good people.

Anyone living in or around valdez at the moment that could give some insight on Valdez Heli Camps/Matt White? Been trying to reach them this month to confirm some flight time changes and it seems they’re not around? I know they don’t run in january but I would think someone would be answering questions at least this week, since they “open” in february….getting a little worried!
