I have tried from several different locations with different ISPs, but it just loads slow. Is it only an european (France) thing, or do you have similar observations? Also it’s completely subjective, but it feels like there is less activity overall in the forums. January 13, 2015 at 6:54 pm #778208 schwalbster 321 PostsI know Chris has to take care of himself right now and all power to him, but is it possible to get an update on when or if we will get the ‘Most recent posts’ function with this new format?Someone of the members here has to be capable with this kind of stuff and I’m sure would offer help if they can!?After much research, experimentation and consideration, I have decided adulthood is not for me. Thank you for the opportunity. January 16, 2015 at 4:22 am #778348 schwalbster 321 PostsTest pic After much research, experimentation and consideration, I have decided adulthood is not for me. Thank you for the opportunity. January 19, 2015 at 9:54 pm #778536 Averell 24 Poststest post. Ok, posting works. Opening a new thread doesn’t. Also I obviousley typed in the wrong pw today at first, requested a new one but didn’t get an email. Tried the pw again and I’m logged in. Weird. Is this actually the “technical issues” thread? I didn’t find anything else. Forum for me is extremely slow as well. Tried opening a thread under Linux Mint with FF and Chromium, now posting from windows with FF. As mentioned above it doesn’t work Editing my profile works as well. The new design doesn’t look too bad. I guess it takes a bit getting used to it. The ads on the side I don’t know. But I guess the site needs to get funded somehow.Any hints on how to open a thread? (I click on “submit”, it takes a while till the page reloads but nothing shows up) January 19, 2015 at 11:35 pm #778541 JTMaine 29 PostsI read about Chris’s difficulties. That definitely takes precedence over how well–or poorly–the new forum is doing. He’s got to do his stuff. But how do WE proceed? The old forum was great and this one is terrible, in my opinion. I used to enjoy the site and now I rarely bother, other than to see if it’s been fixed. Is there another forum somewhere we should try? I find this kind of sad, such a good thing messed up…This is just me. Or is it….? I’m complaining about the functionality. And I don’t know how to fix it, that’s why I’m complaining. And get rid of the topo contour lines taking up 1/3 of the page. And more posts per page please. Like up to 30 would be good. And get rid of the advertisements taking up what little space there is for trip reports. Here, do what these sites do. They are very functional and get tons of traffic: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/index.phphttp://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/ January 20, 2015 at 1:13 pm #778608 BGnight 1382 PostsAnd now my new posts aren’t snowing up January 20, 2015 at 1:29 pm #778611 HansGLudwig 601 Postssplitboard.com wrote:Oh and if folks truly feel like the forum is “yours”, then do something other than complain to improve it.I would recommend starting here: https://bbpress.org/forums/Create an account, ask questions about the things you want to change, share your findings. ^Fuck yes. @BGnight – Do you mind explaining that to me? Are you saying men who look disheveled prefer the company of other men—or is it the other way around? I don’t really understand your inference.Be sure to bookmark Splitboard.com's Recent Activity page... http://splitboard.com/activity-2/ January 20, 2015 at 1:44 pm #778612 BGnight 1382 Posts“I would recommend starting here: https://bbpress.org/forums/Create an account, ask questions about the things you want to change, share your findings. :)”And now the posts are getting all mixed up and shown in the incorrect order on this thread. Yeah, everything is smoooooth. Why would I want to ask questions on a forum about making a forum??? If I was going to do that I’d start my own site. January 20, 2015 at 2:13 pm #778613 rughty 620 PostsThe shift in post order must’ve been due to the time correction?! In any case, the time isn’t pacific time which screws things up for me. I think the previous version of the forum was only an hour different from my time so it wasn’t as noticable then, but now really has thrown things off for me. This really isn’t a big deal.As for the new site verses the old site…I really got used to the old site and without having to go through many changes, I was pretty efficient at it. That didn’t happen overnight for me either. I like the new site and know it will go through some serious development for the better (taking in consideration the users provide good feedback and it is followed) before it is considered “finished”. I know I can’t stand TGR’s forum, but that is likely because I really haven’t given it much chance. But who would blame me…There’s too much douchebaggery and skiing content. LOL More content and less advertisements seem to be the consensus. I personally am waiting for the ability for me to stop having to self host so I can get rid of my FB account. All this social media influence on todays society has me wanting to “Run to the Hills!!!”Edit:Now the time stamp shows Pacific time! Woohoo January 20, 2015 at 5:50 pm #778592 BGnight 1382 PostsNo, I’m with you. I sympathize with Chris’s situation, but it’s no reason for the entire interstate/intercontinental splitboard community to be torn apart. This site has died because of this conversion. I only check on here once a week and I’m always disappointed. I get all my riding stoke and beta on facebook or TGR, etc… Plus, I’m not exactly a fan of the new site and there’s no sign of anything happening anytime soon to fix the current bugs. It’s a shame. If Chris isn’t able to fix this site soon I’m hoping someone with some time, money, and know how makes their own site. I would happily go somewhere with a working forum such as TGR’s. Not that I’m riding much (no snow) but if I was I don’t see myself posting any trip reports here. I think people are scared to hurt Chris’s feelings, but he only owns the website. The forum belongs to us. He owes it to us to fix it or shut it down so we can get something else going. I don’t know anything involved in running a website but I’m sure it’s more involved than I think and I know Chris loves this site and puts a ton of energy into it but having it in disarray like this is gay. I met a lot of people through this site and it’s sad to see it dying. I mean, where else am I going to hook up with strange men that want to meet in the woods and gawk at each other’s gear? 😀 January 20, 2015 at 6:34 pm #778625 HikeforTurns 1114 PostsI am also in the “view new posts” user category, that’s the only way I navigated the old site. Drilling down into each category and sub category is not going to happen for me. Losing snowsavage and other prolific TR posters would be a real shame.https://wordpress.org/plugins/highlight-new-posts/“Returning visitors are usually users who like your content and come back looking for more. However most of these users only spend a few seconds on a web page and leave if they don’t find anything interesting.By highlighting new content, you can point their attention to the latest content. This will not only help you increase your pageviews, but it will also help users find new content.”The great thing about the old forum is it would lay out each post that was new since the last login, and you could click directly on the post without trying to drill down by sub topic and look for dates. How do you search the forums? January 20, 2015 at 6:46 pm #778596 splitboard.com 78 PostsDisarray? It’s a forum, you communicate with other people. How has that really changed? Because the View New Posts feature is gone? Really? Many users, myself included never even used that feature. The content is still here. Am I not allowed to change the looks of the forum from 2005?Maybe some users don’t like the changes and won’t visit as much as a result but the web traffic logs still show a healthy and vibrant community.Things are getting better on my end slowly so I will be able to get back on stuff soon. Thanks for your patience and understanding.www.splitboard.com January 20, 2015 at 6:52 pm #778597 splitboard.com 78 PostsStrange on the page loading stuff. The site and forum run like butter on Safari 8.0?Oh and if folks truly feel like the forum is “yours”, then do something other than complain to improve it.I would recommend starting here: https://bbpress.org/forums/Create an account, ask questions about the things you want to change, share your findings. 🙂www.splitboard.com January 20, 2015 at 8:18 pm #778637 Cbalke 237 PostsPeople are typically resistant to change, especially when they are really comfortable with something. While this change-over has, and will have growing pains. I think that everyone needs to think about the benefits this switch will bring and why people are here in the first place. I wouldn’t care if this place was just a chalkboard, as long as I could soak up some stoke and meet like minded individuals. When it comes to the new format we should be looking at the bright side. This program is customizable which will allow the member’s to create a user friendly experience. With the old forum you got what you got. Things such as embedding video which created numerous problems for people on the old forum now just requires posting the link. People have asked for a review formatted post, there are options available, Polling options available, Photo hosting, and not to mention it looks a hell of a lot better than the archaic TGR forum…The large plugin database will assist in modify the forum to everyone’s liking. For the mods that are not available within the database, they can be created or tweaked. Unfortunately some of these things take a bit of time.In terms of Traffic, this post alone has seen many views, and numerous responses today. While I understand that some may not love everything about the new forum, I believe there is another reason people are not posting TR’s. I think it’s because they are not splitboarding. If they are lucky enough to be splitboarding they may not feel those trips are post worthy. Unfortunately, the “polar Vortex” has messed with old man winter across a large portion of North America. From a warm start for BC and AK to another dismal start for the Sierra, and PNW. As much as I wish we were all scoring in Japan right now, we are not.Rather than the SKY is falling and abandon ship comments we should keep it constructive and give bcrider a little time to sort things out. I would like to see a post preview and an auto populated way to post images. Rather than just bitch about it i’ll see if I can find a plugin. January 20, 2015 at 10:50 pm #778646 fustercluck 668 PostsI really want to express my feelings about this but there are no emoticons. Seriously. WTF is up with that? But really, count me among those that preferred the old format, but trying to be patient so bcrider can get it all dialed in. Stoke is stoke, and right now I’m putting most of the blame on Ullr for lack of stoke around here lately. You hear me, Ullr? I’m calling you out, you little bitch!
