Inserting pics…Are we still hosting pics or are they actually being uploaded. Not a computer genius by any means, but it still seems that my attempt to upload a pic only resulted in my hosting it same as pre-new forum. Please advise on the uploading process. Thanks

Hi @rughty. This feature should be coming soon. I’ll be sure to make a post when it does. Thanks for your patience.

Muchas Gracias to all of the splitboard.com crew for the hard work on the site and forums. splitboard.com is an invaluable resource to the world’s splitboard community.

A typical work-day for me is 10hrs at my primary job during the day (4x10s), 2-3 hours on splitboard.com in the evenings (not to mention the hours I put into the site on my “weekend” and emotional commitment I carry daily).

So thanks, your words mean a lot!

Thanks to Colin and Alex as well for helping with writing new articles this season too.

    one more
keep me logged in option, have to login each time.

Maybe others can chime in but the site remembers my accts fine and does not require me no log-in each time I visit.

Does the same behavior happen in different browsers for you? What browsers are you using?

Feel free to search the plugin page here as well.

Here’s some results you can read through and see if they might work for us.

And is there a post preview option?
I always used it for Trip Reports or uploading photos to make sure everything looked good before posting.

Post density is sooooo bad… 1/3 of the screen is the sidebar that I don’t want or need. It’s particularly bad on longer posts and ones with big pictures. I can fit maximum of 4 short posts on my 15″ 1440×900 screen…

The forum fonts, link color, padding, etc can al be changed in time.

Basically it just comes down to reading the mind-numbing codex, asking for help on the bbpress support forums, or paying a developer. Once you know the code, inserting it’s pretty easy.

Feel free to take a look

    Codex

As for the sidebar, the majority of websites out there use some sort of sidebar. Welcome to the internet. In the old forum we had two 140px sidebars, one on each side of the forum. Now we have one that’s a little bigger than the other two combined.

It’s reasonable in my opinion and a necessary evil. It allows us to sell advertising space which keeps the site going but more importantly allows us to share our content. In the forum we can share recent main-site articles and posts with forum readers that may not have been aware of the posts. On the main-site, it allows us to share forum-realted content with readers that may not participate in the forum. It also allows us to have our social media links and cool little widgets (there’s a ton) that ultimately make the site better.

The fact that our current theme has a maximum width also sorta makes the current sidebar more obtrusive but I think folks will get used to it over time. And when we paint the walls in the future (change themes) we’ll consider themes with flexible width support.

Re the pic you posted, comparing it to what I see in the old forum, I don’t see much difference in destiny or padding on the post view.

I miss the preview option too. Editing after the fact works too tho…

Feel free to see if something similar exists.

Where is the ‘recent posts’ link? I like a quick recap of all the new forum stuff that’s been posted on one page.

    Hi phillip,

Neato. So are we supposed to pick one and you will add that functionality to the boards? At this point pretty much anything will do as a starter. How about this one?

I don’t have any experience with WordPress and only know a few tags of html. So far the forums part of WordPress seems like an afterthought compared to other board software. Maybe the experience will grow richer with time and plugins. We all do appreciate your investment in this community, but change is still hard. :^) I have to say, this software is pretty painful to use on an iPad. The page jumps around when editing and contextual menus like copy and paste disappear a fraction of a second after popping up.

At first I thought having a preview option would be nice so I didn’t show off my bad web skills, but post editing is fine too. I find it hard to get used to change on something I am so familiar with (ie…. windows versions, electronic technology, cameras, gopros, and the list goes on) ,but this new forum really isn’t so different from the old one in functionality. It is, however, more pleasing to the eye. Good work Chris!

Not that I measure my manhood by my post count, but mine was reset back to 0 after the transition. I looked up some of my old posts and they are now from”Imported mountaindog”. Did I do something wrong?

Chris, the forum looks great. Nice work. The img button isn’t working for me with Explorer. It did work with Chrome.
Is a poll plugin on your to-do list? Thanks.

I know I am going to get hated on here. I appreciate the work you put into this site but i feel as though the new format has taken a couple of step back words. Remember this is just my opinion and I am NOT trying to take away from all the hard work that has been put into it.

Glitch alert. I was posting in the diy section and used the smiley sunglasses emoticon. When I submitted the post the smiley sunglasses guy and everything it typed after disappeared. I will add to this the same emoticon followed by the word test. That will let us know if the problem is isolated or systemic.

Hmm, not sure peacefrog. The text after the sunglass smilie didn’t disappear on me. The smile also didn’t show but that was sorta expected.

bbpress supports bbcode (the shortcodes for our old smilies) but I haven’t had the time to sort it all out. I think all I have to do its tell wordpress where those smilie images are located on the server and then tell bbpress what the codes are. It shouldn’t be too hard. It’s on the list.

If anyone wants to volunteer some time for it….I’m sure it could get done sooner 🙂
