I will be ther Feb 20-25th, 2007. we are staying on the mountain so i will not have access to leave the area. First thing, is anyone close to CB? Second, i am a first year splitter and hope to get some runs under my belt before i go out there, will you still want to go with me? i just want to experience the beauty of being out there on your own and having the freshest runs. Third, if not interested on meeting me any other suggestions to find others? thank you for your time. December 6, 2006 at 3:49 pm #592493 Killclimbz 1165 Posts Over the weekend there is a chance that I might be down at Monarch Pass. It’s about an hour from the “Butte proper. Depending on how you get there you might even drive over it. Not a bad place to take out a nOOb. Crested Butte itself has some amazing bc. Huge hikes yield huges runs. We had to climb near 3500 vertical to get one run in last year. It serious enough that it can be on or off depending on the avy report for the day. Hit me up when it’s a couple weeks out from your trip. We’ll see if schedules can coincide for us to hook up. Maybe we can make that our Mini Splitfest day this year and get the rest of the Colorado Crew out. December 7, 2006 at 3:57 am #592494 fortysix2 112 Posts I’m down if I’m here. MP should be good around that time. December 7, 2006 at 3:45 pm #592495 RidePowder 42 Posts Killclimbz i totally appreciate the info. i will def hit you up before i levae but i do not kow if i would be able to drive an hour to that spot. i will not have a car. my buddy does so i might get that i dont know. plus i will have my girlfriend with me who is a skier and she does not have bc equip. she is a good skier but i think the resort is where she would be most comfortable. i know one day she will not ski so that is the day i am thinking of getting out. thank you for the info and if you could keep me up to date with weather and snow conditions there. cant wait. CO Avalanche and weather report: http://geosurvey.state.co.us/avalanche/ Crested Butte area would be central mountains Pretty good snowforecast: http://www.snowforecast.com However CB is not available Aspen probably would be pretty close call though, or check the NOAA weather site http://www.noaa.gov/wx.html December 7, 2006 at 6:29 pm #592497 Killclimbz 1165 Posts There is an Avalanche Center for Crested Butte. http://www.cbavalanchecenter.org/ December 11, 2006 at 10:33 pm #592498 IridePow 288 Posts I must have missed the CB link the first time. Here you go: http://www.snowforecast.com/coloradofcst/crestedbutte.html I like that site…. they are pretty accurate with predictions, at least for the front rage resorts. Who’s up for a turtle pace?! December 14, 2006 at 4:29 pm #592500 Killclimbz 1165 Posts I think Iride, myself, maybe some others are going to try to get out this weekend. There hasn’t been much in the way of snow lately. Still foot did fall at Monarch, and Janet’s Cabin was reporting a foot on Vail Pass. So there are some options. December 20, 2006 at 9:35 pm #592501 RidePowder 42 Posts just received my skins and interface today!! totally stoked looks like if i bring my gear to CO it WOULD be my first time!! Im in centennial Maybe we can have and intown get together some time?? January 4, 2007 at 4:14 pm #592503 Killclimbz 1165 Posts Hey DiveBomber, welcome to the front range circus. We definitely get out. Though I haven’t been as reliable as previous seasons. Ahhh life, can be a pain in the arse. Still, all the CO Splitters have been getting out. Pretty much all of the local riders I have met here are solid. Post up when you are able to get out. We’ll definitely try to get something going when RidePowder is out here. January 4, 2007 at 6:49 pm #592504 DiveBomber 6 Posts thanks, Im availbale 24/7-356, I want to do some full moon stuff, got my night vision 😉 January 5, 2007 at 5:17 am #592505 RidePowder 42 Posts AAWW i feel touched… thank you Killclimbz for remembering me. i am being serious here and IT MIGHT BE MY FIRST TIME when i get there cuz i DO NOT TRUST the BC here in the northeast cuz we have yet to have a big dumping of snow. i will keep u updated if i go out. if you feel i should try around here first tell me cuz i dont wanna go out there and suck hard. tell me the truth. January 5, 2007 at 4:16 pm #592506 Killclimbz 1165 Posts You know just figure out how to change your split over, put on and take off the skins etc. Skinnin’ is easy. Slightly more complicated than snowhoeing. Probably the real issue is going to be altitude. Monarch Pass starts out at 11k ft and goes from there. January 5, 2007 at 5:04 pm #592507 OldMan 24 Posts Anybody up for Berthoud *early* tomorrow? I like to track it all out before the crowds show up 😉 @ridepowder wrote: if you feel i should try around here first tell me cuz i dont wanna go out there and suck hard. tell me the truth. I agree with Killclimbz. Make sure you’ve had at least a few dry runs with switching it over. Starting out on Berthoud or another easy access pass is a good place to test out your gear and get acclimated. Being in good shape is the most important thing. Oh, and make sure you’ve got a good pair of liner gloves so you don’t have to freeze your fingers when switching over. When I took a noobie to Teton Pass last year, he was really having a hard time getting up the bootpack to the top of Glory and I thought that the next day (when we were planning on skinning in–his first time on skins) was going to be really short…But…He did so much better on the skins in comparison to hiking, that we traveled way farther than I thought we would. Huh. Looks to me like the winds have been pretty light since last night. Here’s the weather station on top of Berthoud: http://www.avalanche.org/~wxstns/grandnet/BERTHOUD.html If I’ve got someone to ride with tomorrow, I’ll hit Berthoud, if it’s not good, then drop down to Jones. Berthoud was manky on Monday when fortysix&2 and I were there. I guess it was more completely tracked out than manky. January 6, 2007 at 2:49 am #592510 fortysix2 112 Posts .
