Use this thread for British Columbia conditions, if you want to discuss specific locations in BC feel free to start a new thread.

Things should be good in a month. Kootenay Pass is way too shallow to ride yet – snow just started actually accumulating in the past week. I went up high in the Purcells (Jumbo Pass – see TR) on the weekend and it’s definitely rideable down to around 2100m. Still need to be mindful of rocks.

I live in Rossland so I’ll keep you guys updated on conditions out in the west kootenays.

apex mtn west of penticton reports 14 inches today in the alpine. their peak is 7200ft (2180m) . in my area thats the best report so far. there is a good slack bowl to the south of the resort that will probably be my first turns of the year. maybe not this weekend , but probably next will be good to go. overall things are slow to start in my area (s) . hopefully in a month things will be rolling.

heads up. friend of mine working for a local heli skiing opperation in the monashees/three valley area. though I’d pass it along.

hey guys, as I’m sure your aware, avalanche conditions are HIGH! I thought I’d give a heads up on just how high though, we’re seeing serious cracking and whumpfing in fairly moderate terrain, and we just got call from monashee powder telling us they’re seeing considerable slides in very moderate terrain that are suspected to be steping down to the nov 20th layer. everybody stay extra safe out there these next couple days!!!

great if you’ve got a sled. As of a week ago the road was not being plowed.

road not plowed. snow pack as of dec 22 165 BLT. which is thin for a lot of the lines to be good. lots of the main features in that zone slid on the 12th. noticed a small slab with in the storm snow giving some reactions on steeper features. there is a SH layer burried by the last storm, could amount to nothing.

Hey BC, moved here a couple months ago from Cali and getting oriented. What’s the word on skinning at Cypress? Is it allowed? I’m hoping to put in a couple quick laps before work tomorrow. Was up in their lot yesterday and coverage looked good enough to have some fun. Thanks for any info!

Not sure about the rules but I’ve skinned up the main trails when the resort was closed and never ran into any issues. Heading up the big green run (collins?) on strahan is a nice easy skin.

Also, not sure if many people are even look at this thread but I’m looking for partners for this winter! I’m pretty limited on backcountry partners and hoping to get as much in as possible this year.

    Winter is coming

Yeah, I noticed no one had posted to this thread for over a year.
But thanks for the info BeamerLad. Seemingly seconds after I put that post up it turned to rain up there, good to know for the future though. I’ll send you my email address in a PM, hit me up if you want to talk about doing some hiking. Moved up here not knowing a soul so I need partners too!
