I am curious as well. My first thought was that I didn’t want I cut up my skins but I guess that isn’t that big of deal. Second thought was that it would be just one more thing to deal with in the pack and during transitions. Ultimately I haven’t picked them up because most of my approaches aren’t very long before I go up… but I can see some practical applications on the right tour.
I agree – would I really stop and put them on or just continue trudging along. I have a hut trip coming up with a couple longer rolling sections that they could be used for. I’m going with 5 other skiers, I’m the only one on a split. I thought it might give me an edge. I also have the strappy straps too – but I rarely even bring them. I might bring them along this time and try em out.
I’m all about full carpet, no thanks on the brazillian! But also we go straight up here. I have liked my mohair mix skins as the glide blows away nylon. The zip strips are interesting, but I don’t see a need on my end to use them. Maybe only for hut trips.
@summersgone Seeing as you all do go straight up in your area, it would be interesting to see how something like the Contour linked above would work. I could see putting them on being a hassle in the field when breezy. It would almost be like putting on 4 skins. Shoot, maybe scales and those Contours are the way to go….scaly Brazilian, ouch!
A skier friend of ours had some “Brazilians” here in the San Juans and I would intentionally skin behind him just to laugh and watch him slip on the way up…. I think they made it out for 3 tours and were up for sale after that.
^Thanks for the info. I was hoping to hear good things as it would be an easy DIY and save some skin weight. Oh well, erasing that project from the list.
