just trying to get info, I snowboard but have never x country or skied, dont know what size i should go for (sounds like bigger is better) and i will be using my ski’s to hunt so i could be hauling meat, I am 6′ and 220, but a s.b. sounds like a fun platform for work and play.

Split skis will work great for haulin’ meat. Sounds fun. You are a big dude so you’re gonna want something in the 170cm range, maybe 180. Voile, Venture and Prior all make big boards.

You win the “manliest first post” award, that’s for sure.
I think a 170 would be good if that’s close to what you ride on. No need to get a bigger board if you only ride a 166 normally.

    Good luck!

FYI if you haven’t been to interior AK before the snow is extremly sugary. It’s so cold that a base never really forms. When I lived there I remember being able to reach trough 3′ of snow and grab a stick off the ground. I say this just so you get an idea of how crucial floatation will be. I think the other guys are right that you might as well use your split. Depending on where you’re going there might be some stuff worth riding (maybe headlamp missions near your basecamp) and when you’re out hunting in earnest you can pull the ride mode hardware to reduce weight.

I really appreciate the advice, I have been here 2 years and the snow is quite different than anywhere i have ever boarded (cali and europe) so you are correct peacefrog and I realize I need a long board I was thinking 170 but i am almost considering a 180. i currently ride a custom x 160 and my buddy hauled my ass up the mountain where “arctic man” is held and I could definetly use a longer board cause i just sank and my legs were dead half way through the day. I am looking for a board, if anyone has a board they are looking to get rid of thats descent let me know.

If you’re looking for turns, as well as bc travel, then by all means the split is the shit.

Also, I’ve got a voile mojo 171 for sale. Check out my post in the Swap forum for picts and description. The post is prolly buried on the 2 or 3 page now. @ak.sp.wannabe wrote:
