Saw that, never bought a copy as it was $, but would read it often at Borders for the photography alone. Sux to see them go away…even if maybe people like me were part of the problem.

The problem was that they received most all of their funding, not from advertising but rather from a wealthy individual. The ability for the to offer such a high quality publication with so little advertising was most appreciated. Unfortunately when the stock market took a dump, so did that investor’s ability to fund the ‘zine. I thank Alpinist for never selling out, but by the same token wish they had (or will).

samh is correct, its a real bummer. Alpinst use to occupy the space right next to my office, when the market crashed they made the announcement and there are alot of disappointed folks.

word on the street is that backcountry mag owners stepped up to the plate, and Alpinist will resume publication on March 1st (and fulfill past subscriptions!) :guinness:

Re-launch info available from Alpinist website. Honoring previous subscriptions    , and offering special subscription rate of $30…a really good deal for an amazing publication!

    “stepped up to the plate”?

Didn’t they buy what was had something like $2,000,000 put into it for $70,000?

More like savy investors than stepping up to the plate.

Glad its working out for everyone though.
