    Lets get a crew together!

What i’d love to do down that way also is charter a yacht in The Falklands to go to South Georgia and do a traverse there, that would be epic

Looks really cool but it’s a bit out of my budget right now as a student.

Might make it to my hit list though… but in a few years.

I’m pretty on the fence about this whole Antarctica tourism stuff. Do we really need people fucking up the last unpopulated continent? How much gas do you need to burn to ski something for novelties sake? Car to the airport, flight to South America, car to the ship, then a luxury cruise liner back and forth. Having said that, all the trip reports I’ve read make it look like a pretty fun time.

I’ve been to Jackson Hole, I’ve been to SLC. Hell, I Live in Alaska! I love burning gas, especially 2-stroke, and some would call me a hippie.
That being said… It’s F-ing Antarctica for F’s sake! I’m going, even if it does cost the same as a new sled.
If I don’t do it, someone else will.

    Peace,

and maybe I’ll see some of y’all there.

    just sayin’…

You are definitely entitled to your opinion. Personally, I have a goal to set foot on every continent before I keel over, so this is my way to hit Antarctica without doing the standard ‘let’s go climb Vinson’. And it lets my girl go as well, which she wouldn’t do for Vinson. Plus, exactly how is this going to “F up the last unpopulated continent”?

Man I’d love to hit this up but I’m working towards a couple years of perpetual winter:

    –>BC—>Chile–>AK–>NZ

Might have to save this for when I reach “old man money” status

Looks like it’d be sick on a stick though!!! Take lots of pics dusty!

Andrew McLean is quite well known, and he has his gear list posted for the Ski Cruise.

I personally have spent some time with Howie Schwartz, though it was swinging tools rather than ripping turns. Really nice guy.

Some of the other names sound familiar, but no personal experience on my end. Hope you have a killer time, and please post a TR!

Anyone whose even remotely considering going to Antartica needs to watch Werner Herzog’s ‘Encounters at the End of the World’- it’s an awesome film, and also totally debunks any idea of Antartica being ‘unpopulated’. There are ‘cities’ of scientists, etc. there year round…

Anyway, awesome film and a must see if you have any antipodal interest…

Doug Workman was my guide on my all time AK heli day (did North face and gunbarrells of Dimond that day). He’s was awesome as a heli guide. He tried getting snowsavage and I into a super gnarly line one day but he almost died ski cutting it (don’t worry, he’s safe) He has a twin brother and they both work for Valdez Heli Ski Guides. I think he is an Exum guide in the summer too.
