I think that might partly due to the camera angle and the wide angle lens
’09 S-series spec show 6mm for 162, and 7mm for the 168… although have heard that in reality it’s more like 15mm… never seen or measured one… so don’t know… I have a Supermodel X with 10mm taper and it doesn’t look super tapered when looking at it from a distance
I have an 09 S-Series. Taper is around 15mm. Personally, I’ll never buy a Burton split again. The top sheet is way too delicate. The board rides well, but it’s not very durable. My next split will be a Venture.

My understanding is that the taper was added when they switched to the Voile interface (previous models with the Burton interface were more like the Custom shape, with no taper), and that this design hasn’t changed since. If that’s the case, then the taper on the 162 is definitely 6mm. I just measured it on mine (2008 162) and it was exactly 6mm taper – widest part of the nose was 6mm wider than the widest part of the tail.
Those crampons lying on the floor look to be more like the old Burton crampons rather than the Voile ones. Are my eyes deceiving me?
Yeah, those are old Burton crampons. I think it’s due to marketing people putting together the booth display. They probably just had some lying around and figured those would get the point across, never mind that they don’t actually work with the current board design! 🙂
