I’d probably be in as well if you need some help covering costs. I’ve done some yurt trips to the Sawtooths so I’m somewhat familiar with the area although I couldn’t tell exactly where the cabin is at based on the pictures on the website.

To clarify I think the above two posts meant to say they drop off the south side of the Pfeifferhorn into the Dry Creek drainage, not American Fork (AF). One has to be dropping SE off White Baldy to get into AF. But I agree with Wasatch Don, full mountaineering gear can be overkill depending on your tolerance. The E ridge of the…

I do this tour at least once a year in the spring, typically looks like:

    1. Start at White Pine trailhead, tour up through Red Pine and over Redbird Point to the ridge.
    2. Head up to the top of the Pheif, I see a lot of people in full mountaineering gear but I never found it that sketch (I have zero climbing background as well)
    3. I usually…[Read more]

    Adam,

What’s the Prior in the bottom picture on your last post? Did they redesign the swallowtail or is that a new model? Do you have the specs? …don’t see it on their website.

Got 8 days of riding in a variety of conditions on the 13/14 Phantoms and loved them… here are some quick observations:

    1. Transitions are significantly better and faster now. My only issue with last year’s model was the pins, all of that is resolved now. Love the interface, extremely easy to use and reliable. If the only improvement in the…[Read more]

I’ve got ~50 days on last year’s model and just got the new prototype mounted up to a board yesterday. Still need to get out on it but will be putting in a good 10 days of riding over the next two weeks.

My first impression with the new bindings is that the finish and workmanship is excellent, looks amazing and significantly lighter than my…[Read more]

    Hi Adam,

Can you talk about how you plan to use carbon in your boards? Is it a wood core with carbon on top instead of glass or are you running carbon all the way through? I’m looking for a lightweight powder board for next year.

I’ve got a bunch of days on the board now so probably time for a review. The biggest surprise to me so far is how versatile the board is, I didn’t really expect it to become my daily driver but it’s pretty much the only board I use anymore. The last month in the Wasatch has been all over the place as far as conditions go; I’ve had some huge…[Read more]

I started out yesterday putting a skinner up Kessler on the ridge between Lawnmower and Hanging Meadows. Towards the top, the pack got really hollow underneath and I was getting some collapsing on the steeper slopes. Turned around from that and hit George’s Bowl/North Ivory instead. Found the pack there to be very solid and had an amazing…[Read more]

Very interesting to compare the Phantoms to Sidewinders. For me the Sidewinders help dampen the ride while riding hard pack. Very interested to hear that the Phatoms are more responsive and lighter too.

The Sidewinders are great bindings and very burly. I didn’t mean to say that the Phantom’s are stiffer than the Sidewinders, I’m not sure how…[Read more]

The lead time was really starting to kill me… board took way longer than first estimated. It’s not like I would have used it by now so really not too big of a deal but still longer than I thought. Anyway, got the board in hand now and unbelievably stoked to get out on it. Here are some picture links for others looking at a similar build:

My unsolicited advice for young people looking forward at their careers is to not focus their efforts on finding a job that provides lots of time off but instead to focus on finding something they’re good at. In my opinion, if you’re good enough at something you’ll be able to work out the details around schedules.

I work in IT management which…[Read more]

One thing to factor in is the type of snow you’ll be riding.

I’m 6’4 and currently at 210lbs without any gear on. Last year I was on a 178 Prior Spearhead which was an excellent board and gave me plenty of float and speed here in the Wasatch.

However, when I do the occassional trip to the PNW or Sierra, I use either a 169 NeverSummer or a 170…[Read more]

Thats right, you have those two big Priors, right? Any chance you’re looking to get rid of either of them? Even if not, I’d still be interested to hear the specs.

It’s a $250 upcharge to have it split which includes clips and hooks. All in, the price was $1,300 after the carbon upgrade and shipping. That’s pretty close to what I spend every year with Prior for a custom board so it was worth it…[Read more]
